'06 FL S/WR Jamar Hornsby (official thread)

How the hell is Hornsby not in jail serving a sentence or awaiting trial for this? It's barely over 6 months since this happened and he's already on scholarship at another SEC school...

Did he get anything in the way of legal penalties for what he did?

Hornsby gets probation | GatorSports.com | The Gainesville Sun | Gainesville, FL

The card use was discovered by Slonina's parents month after her death.
The Slonina family was in court Monday morning to accept a letter of
apology from Hornsby. State Attorney Bill Cervone said that although the
theft complicated the family's efforts to deal with Ashley's death, the
Sloninas accepted Hornsby's apology and the plea deal.
"They expressed to me that they wanted him to have a productive life," Cervone said.

I am officially rooting for Houston Nutt to be fired. This guy doesn't have any ethics whatsoever.

Rich Rodriguez among coaches depending on second recruiting class - Andy Staples - SI.com

Ole Miss

With 37 signees, some of them have to be good, right? Houston Nutt's second class in Oxford has as much quality as it does quantity. The Rebels signed Fort Meade, Md., quarterback Raymond Cotton, who had originally planned on becoming Tony Franklin's quarterback of the future at Auburn before that program fell into disarray. Ole Miss also grabbed Macon, Miss., receiver Patrick Patterson and Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) offensive lineman Bobby Massie in a Signing Day sweep. Expect a fair amount of controversy if safety signee Jamar Hornsby emerges as a starter. Hornsby, a transfer from East Mississippi Community College, was kicked off Florida's team in May 2008 when he was caught using a credit card that had belonged to teammate Joe Haden's recently deceased girlfriend. Hornsby cut a plea deal in December and was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to pay almost $10,000 in restitution and court costs.
:shake: There has to be something likable about SEC football, doesn't there?

EDIT- Sorry, didn't see this was already covered. Still, I now hate Ole Miss.

More trouble for Ole Miss' Hornsby - SEC - ESPN

There's a chance now that he may never make it to campus, although Ole Miss defensive backs coach Kim Dameron told David Brandt of The Jackson Clarion-Ledger that the program planned to honor his scholarship.

The reports from the Starkville Police Department have been sketchy as to what led to Hornsby's arrest. But if he's guilty of what he's been charged with, there's clearly a pattern here.

And that one's on Nutt and the administration at Ole Miss for signing off on taking him in the first place.

Nutt gathering facts in Hornsby arrest
March 9, 2009 2:04 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has released a statement through the university and said he's gathering all the facts in Jamar Hornsby's arrest before making a decision on Hornsby's status with the team.
"We're looking into the matter and trying to gather all the facts," Nutt said in the statement. "Once all the facts are in, we will make a decision."
David Brandt of The Jackson Clarion-Ledger has reported more of the details surrounding Hornsby's arrest on March 1 in Starkville. According to the arrest report, the complaint filed said Hornsby used brass knuckles while hitting another guy repeatedly in the head area, causing a fractured nose, busted lips, swollen jaw and other cuts.
The altercation started after Hornsby was involved in a minor traffic accident with another car in a drive-thru at McDonald's around 2:15 that morning, according to police.

...
Brass knuckles to the face? Dude needs to be in jail.
