DT Eddrick Houston (Official Thread)

Anyone other than me questions the motivation here? Due to my Negative Nellie thought process, wonder if Day & Co was wondering/hearing? that Eddrick was thinking portal after this season? LJ doesn't normally throw true freshmen in (as starters) in later season games if at all. Yes, he did well, and that is great. Helps keep him engaged certainly, and we'll see how much time he logs if Tyleik is back at 100%. Trying to figure out if this is one more ramification of the transfer portal, and/or the excellent recruiting efforts of the Buckeyes (and other elite programs). Since don't pay attention to the other programs at all, simply wonder if this manifestation is tied to portal, Knowles v Johnson, Day being a CEO, or ? And of course, there's the trickle down effect, if Hero, Twylone (gone after this year?), and Jason sit up and take notice that they've been bypassed? Not entirely certain how much a player can stand out now that we're in season. Doubt there is much 'violent hitting' during the Tuesday-Thursday practices, called full-go? Too many chances for injury. Also haven't checked to see if this burns Eddrick's redshirt. Ah well, Go Bucks!

I think it speaks more to the fact that, outside of Kayden, none of the other backups have stepped up and claimed that role.

A $1 billion proposal is the latest plan to refurbish and save the iconic Houston Astrodome

Houston Astrodome's Future

In this artist rendering provided by the Astrodome Conservancy, shows some of the proposed mixed use spaces, supplied by Gensler Architects, for renovations of the now dormant Astrodome unveiled during a press conference put on by the Astrodome Conservancy held at The Ion Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, in Houston.

The Houston Astrodome has been in limbo, waiting for its chance at a second life since being shuttered more than 15 years ago.

It was a technological marvel when it opened in 1965. But its heyday has long passed and it hasn’t been home to a sports team since the Astros left in 1999 and it was closed to all events a decade later.

Over the years, ideas for its redevelopment and rebirth have been plentiful, everything from turning it into an indoor water park to flooding its sunken floor in order to reenact naval battle scenes. But none of these plans garnered enough public support or financing.

The latest proposal to refurbish the Astrodome was unveiled on Wednesday by a nonprofit focused on saving the beloved domed stadium. The group, the Astrodome Conservancy, proposes redeveloping the inside of the structure to create new areas for restaurants, retail, office and cultural spaces. But like the others before it, this plan could face a similar fate, with a $1 billion price tag and an initial lack of support from local entities that would need to give their OK for the project to go forward.

Beth Wiedower Jackson, the conservancy’s executive director, said that unlike previous proposals, her organization believes theirs is backed by data and would be economically viable in part because there would be enough private investment to support it.

“This is a big, big, bold vision. And those previous plans, even admitted by Harris County officials, were a first step towards a future Astrodome. And this is the full swing of the bat. And this gives people something to be excited about,” Jackson said.

The plan, Vision: Astrodome, proposes the construction of four state-of-the-art buildings inside the stadium that would offer spaces for restaurants, stores and offices. Similar spaces for shopping and eating would also be located around the Astrodome and connected to other facilities around the stadium. The Astrodome is at NRG Park, a 350-acre complex that includes NRG Stadium, located right next to the Astrodome and home to the NFL's Houston Texans, as well as an arena and exhibition halls.

“The Astrodome is ready now for its next chapter, redevelopment," said Phoebe Tudor, the conservancy’s chairman. "It is time for all of us in Houston to come together and do something hard, working together to repurpose the Astrodome.”

A top cornerback in the 2026 class relished visiting Ohio State last weekend.
Four-star 2026 New Jersey prospect Jordan Thomas attended the Buckeyes’ victory against Purdue on Saturday and was impressed by how dominant they were against the Boilermakers.
“I had a great experience on my visit and had fun watching the game,” Thomas told Eleven Warriors. “The team is looking like a national championship contender. They executed on all aspects of the game. I like how the defense completely shut out their opponent. I spoke with coach Day, coach Walton, coach Guerrieri, along with others. It was made clear that I am a priority for them and that they think I would be a great fit for their program.”
Thomas told Eleven Warriors he hears from Walton “almost every week” and that Ohio State “stands as one of my top priorities.”
Thomas picked up his offer from Walton in April and has long been grateful for the opportunity to play in Columbus.
“It felt amazing,” Thomas said as he recalled his Ohio State offer. “I felt very thankful and honored to be blessed with the opportunity to play at The Ohio State University. I would say the development is the most appealing part of potentially playing at OSU.”
Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Thomas is the No. 256 prospect and the No. 19 cornerback in 2026. He is the high school teammate of Ohio State 2025 wide receiver commit Quincy Porter at Bergen Catholic High School (Oradell, New Jersey).
“I am a versatile athlete that understands the game and can make game-changing plays when the opportunity is provided,” Thomas said describing his on-field game. “I can play all types of coverages and can shut down my side of the field as well as anyone who lines up against me in man coverage.”
Thomas said he hopes to return to Columbus sometime soon and that it won’t be too long before he makes a commitment.
“I’m not sure when exactly but I do plan on getting back sometime in the near future after my season,” Thomas said of his future Ohio State visit plans. “I also plan to commit after my season, sometime before summer.”

'25 MO PF/C A'mare Bynum is a Buckeye!!!

Taking a look at the Ohio State basketball team's 2025 signees

Bynum is a shorter center, standing at 6'8 and 210 pounds. He too can make the occasional three, but he is a good scorer down low. He has a high motor too, which is important to Diebler. As we've seen so far this season, his team is playing at a much faster pace than in past years.

Both of these players are guys Diebler is happy to have. Both have a chance to play as freshmen, but I think Bynum has the better chance of the two just because of the spot he plays. He can play either power forward or center depending on what the team needs.

Sales’ visit to Ohio State went really well over the weekend as the fan base stood out most in Columbus and the coaching staff told the 2027 four-star athlete from Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North they’d come see him in the offseason to keep building the relationship. The Buckeyes haven’t offered yet but that would be a big one as Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky and Miami stand out most.

One of the top 2027 running backs nationally, the Buffalo (N.Y.) Canisius standout was at Ohio State over the weekend and loved what he saw from the Buckeyes.
Coach Ryan Day told Kimble that they were going to play fast and aggressive and that’s exactly what Kimble saw as Ohio State and Oregon have taken the early lead in his recruitment.

Miami has been tagged as the front-runner for the 2026 five-star athlete from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna and that could definitely be the case - especially if the Hurricanes keep playing so well - but Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State and Penn State remain contenders. Cooper was in Columbus over the weekend and the Buckeyes’ dominance over Purdue definitely stood out. An early and quick commitment to Georgia didn’t work out but the Bulldogs definitely remain a legit contender here.

P Nick McLarty (Official Thread)

I mean I’m here for it when we are up big… maybe the fans would stick around if they know there’s a shot for a football to reach their seats in C deck?
Tom Skladany could have done it, but his punts always went where he sent them. He is the only punter that I ever saw get an audible "oooooo" out of the crowd for how high his punts went... yes... way over C-Deck. Would love to see McLarty do that in the future. Preferably without supplying the crowd with souvenirs.

Vanderbilt Commodores (official thread)

Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia denied TRO request for added eligibility

A federal judge on Tuesday denied Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia's request for a temporary restraining order that would grant him another year of eligibility -- but did not close the matter entirely.

Pavia sued the NCAA in federal court Friday in Nashville, Tennessee, arguing that his two seasons playing at a junior college shouldn't count toward his Division I eligibility since he was unable to profit from his name, image and likeness during that time....

Pavia's attorneys argued that Pavia would suffer immediate and irreparable harm without relief from the court because the transfer portal opens on Dec. 9 and that waiting even one more day will "place him between a rock and a hard place" in regards to negotiating an NIL deal at Vanderbilt or transferring to another school.

"Given that Plaintiff has almost certainly been aware of the challenged bylaws and his ineligibility to play college football in the 2025-26 season for quite some time and has been discussing possible resolution with the NCAA, the Court is not persuaded that an ex parte order is justified," William Campbell Jr., chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, wrote in his ruling. "This is particularly the case here where the Plaintiff seeks prospective injunctive relief, not merely preservation of the status quo."

Bernhard Langer and his 18 straight years of winning is among golf’s untouchable records: Analysis

90

Winning doesn’t get old. Neither, apparently, does Bernhard Langer.

In a year when Scottie Scheffler delivered a level of dominance not seen since Tiger Woods and Xander Schauffele won two majors, when Nelly Korda tied an LPGA record by winning five straight times and Lydia Ko got into the LPGA Hall of Fame by winning Olympic gold, Langer finished his year with a feat as impressive as any, if not more.

Winless for the first time since the 67-year-old Langer became eligible for the PGA Tour Champions in 2007, he was down to the final tournament on a Phoenix Country Club course where he had never finished within five shots of the winner.

“One more putt,” caddie Terry Holt told him on the 18th green, and Langer holed a 30-foot birdie putt for a 66 — his third straight day shooting his age or lower — for a one-shot victory in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

That makes it 18 consecutive years with at least one win on the 50-and-older circuit, where time is the greatest adversary. No other league has a shorter shelf life for success. For every year that skills deteriorate, a new batch of younger players (relatively speaking) arrive.

Consider this: The year Langer joined the PGA Tour Champions in 2007, Padraig Harrington won the first of his three major championships. Langer finished 10 shots ahead of the Irishman on Sunday.

The record for consecutive years winning on the PGA Tour is 17, held by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. They were in their 40s when the streak ended, not pushing 70.

“The commitment, the dedication and desire to compete at a high level blows my mind,” said Mark O’Meara, a runner-up to Langer in the German’s first Champions win in 2007. “A lot of things happen in sport. I understand what Tiger did, what Nicklaus did, Palmer, all the greats that come before us. But what this man has done for 18 years is amazing. Forget the money. Just to have the desire and will.

“I don’t see it happening again. I truly don’t.”

O’Meara, who now lives in Las Vegas, wouldn’t get very good odds of this record being broken.

It belongs among the untouchable record in golf, just shy of Byron Nelson winning 11 tournaments in a row on the PGA Tour in 1945, probably greater than Woods making 142 consecutive cuts over seven years.

Langer set the record for oldest winner on the PGA Tour Champions in 2021 when he was 64. He has broken his record five times since then, most recently on Sunday. He defied more than age this year.

J.J. McCarthy (once a tCun, always a tCun)

I hope Spin Pass got a lot of guaranteed money. I'd hate for him to go bust on the field and then go bankrupt off it.

And seriously a fucking mansion. You're a single, 24 year old kid.

RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

  • Day said Maurice Clarett gives Ohio State "an edge" working with the program behind the scenes. "I have a lot of respect for Maurice and where he's come in his life. This is somebody to me that has helped out other programs. ... I like his mindset. He brings a toughness, a seriousness, a credibility."

Injuries and artificial turf

Perhaps we should pay Scott's to put their name on the field instead of Safelite and take care of actual grass. It could be Scott's Lawn at Ohio Stadium.
Football needs to be played outdoors on grass. (I've read all the reasons it isn't practical/possible at the Shoe, so chalk this up as my one unhinged fan opinion)
