DE C.J. Hicks (National Champion, transfer to USF)

Looks like he’s been officially activated and it won’t count against his RS.

This is really great depth for the team. He may not be Caden Curry or Kenyatta Jackson, but he doesn’t need to be that over the next month - just like Curry didn’t need to be Jack Sawyer last year. Hicks is an experienced player that has the physical abilities and intelligence to wreck an offense while the starters are getting a breather. Would also be a nice sub in terms of size and ability for Reese. This could tee him up for a great start in 2026.

I have a feeling that Mendoza will remember him following tomorrows game.

That's a crazy stat since the entire SEC gets ranked twice each week. How do you even navigate an SEC schedule without bumping in to a half dozen ranked wins?

"but they were ranked at the time!!!" is the favorite SEC rallying call.

Because you should definitely get credit for a "ranked win" when you beat like LSU South Carolina or Florida in the first half of the year and they finished unranked.

The Hoooooooooooshiers your daddy team looks pretty solid to me. It could come down to the D and who has the ball last. We don’t need to be short changing them
Ill fuckin short change them. Sideways change them. Backwards i dont give a fuck. I took all their change. They're donezo. Goose cooked.

Vandy had 2 losses and did not beat one single ranked team. Hilarious reaching and crying. Sucks to suck.

Somebody does this every year. It's yet to happen.

Dookie V made a late in life career out of bubble team injustice and outrage rants.

No way we were going to avoid it in CFB.

I'm a little disappointed that no one has stepped up to be the clear "outraged at this travisshamockery" guy yet.

Herbie would be good for it-he could cry and hug his dog as he wept crocodile tears of sadness for the kids on the 15th best team in CFB that year.

I meant boom or bust in the sense that they will likely rip a bunch of back shoulder throws at Igbinosun or Sanchez and find success or not with it… either through PIs or actually completing hard to defend passes.

I mean they will throw the ball but PI's are just noise in the game really, they aren't a foundational thing. You can't build a gameplan on "we'll do this and get 10 PI calls". I mean, I HOPE IU would build that as a plan but I think they are too smart for that.

It's annoying as hell when it happens but it won't flip the game by itself.

The IU upset path is short fields from ST chaos, 2+ turnovers, consistent up the middle pressure on Sayin and OSU having empty possessions.

If they don't get multiple parts of that, they don't really have a way to win.

My impression has always been that Nebraska’s winning strategy was taking skill position players who had no other options due to academics or off field issues and putting them behind roided up Midwest farm boys. In both scenarios, the importance of the location was minimized.

As I recall it they went from 80's pretty good to 90's dominant when they started getting their skill players from the LA area something happened and they lost that (Osborne retired is one obvious catalyst) and they went down hard for the past 25 years or so.

I think I read that something demographic happened and that midwest farm boy base took a hit as well (their famed walk on program).

Still gets back to talent in my mind, if you are in a remote are with nothing for kids to do you are going to have to sell something else and they don't have much to sell. Same basic pattern Nebraska showed.

I wonder if we’ll see him moving forward now that his redshirt is secured.

To me, that’s where the “they really haven’t played anyone” argument separates from making it with Ohio State and making it with Indiana (with the obligatory Oregon caveat).

Ohio State has NFL talent across the board, so when in doubt, roll with the talent.

I think a poorly coached and coordinated Penn State team showed how much talent alone can factor into a game against Indiana.

And to scarlet glasses excuse away the Oregon results, I think Sayin >>> Moore when it comes to processing what Indiana is doing on defense… and it’s in a dome.

I think Indiana might be able to cause problems for Ohio State’s OLine with stunts… hopefully the coaches have a good plan for that.

I also think the Indiana offense is going to be boom or bust ripping throws all over the field. If they have success with those or draw a bunch of PIs, they can certainly make it a close game. But if Mendoza is off, which he has the capacity to be, they could be in big trouble.

But to the original point, I feel confident that Ohio State’s talent sets them apart in this game which is amplified in ideal conditions.
Totally agree on the talent edge.

On the boom or bust thing-IU isn't an explosive offense but if they get behind they will have to start trying to be one and that is when the boa constrictor has done it's job. Now the the lesser talented team is desperate, predictable and trying to do something they aren't built to do...against the team with better talent.

It's a low probability place to be.

Lmao. A must watch.

Penn State AD Kraft recorded during Player's Meeting. There's some great quotes in there.

Player tells Kraft the reason why they can't get top recruits is because "There's nothing to do here".

Kraft called Oregon "frauds" and "a bunch of weirdos" lmaooo. "They have Phil and Nike" and "they won't win a national championship."

"Ohio State is Ohio State, but it's not like they're light-years better than us, we just have to get over the fucking hump."

"Texas pays 65 guys, they pay Arch $5 million."

"Georgia and Oregon, if you're late for class, $10k fine. That's how they get their money back."

"There's no way a 90 year old QB from Iowa should run for 180 yards on us."

"Michigan stinks. They cheated their balls off, it's true."

Hahahahahaha
I can't believe that's an AD at a major university. Guess I'm old-school - If I'm the Univ Pres, he's no longer my AD.

I heard an IU beat writer say that Texas, Penn State, UM had good DLs, but Ohio State hadn’t seen a DL like Indiana’s yet this season. They still have a starter and key rotation player from JMU on that line. I think Ohio State will be okay.

Just sayin': Oregon (3), scUM (2), and Ohio State (2) have more defensive linemen on the All-B1G teams (i.e. 3 deep) than Indiana (1).

Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year: Kayden McDonald, Ohio State
DEFENSE FIRST TEAM SECOND TEAM THIRD TEAM
Edge Derrick Moore, Michigan Gabe Jacas, Illinois Teitum Tuioti, Oregon
Edge Anthony Smith, Minnesota Caden Curry, Ohio State Dani Dennis-Sutton, Penn State
Interior Tyrique Tucker, Indiana Aaron Graves, Iowa Rayshaun Benny, Michigan
Interior Kayden McDonald, Ohio State Bear Alexander, Oregon A'Mauri Washington, Oregon

This is why I draw the Nebraska comp. There are other similarities but this is the main driver for me.

Once Nebraska lost whatever they had that let top end talent look past that reality, they cratered and may never get back. Sprinkle in a few bad coaching hires and you have the blueprint for the path the Pedsters are already on and will stay on barring some miracle imo.
