Stay in the loop on your favorite Buckeye teams, from track & field to tennis to lacrosse.
As some of the spring sports teams near the end of their regular season, things are getting interesting for Buckeye Nation, with plenty of movement in the rankings, exciting matchups, and individual honors to keep you busy bragging all week long.
With their 14-10 victory over No. 17 Johns Hopkins in Maryland last Saturday, the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team won their 11th-straight game as they head into their regular season finale, moving into No. 2 in the polls, its highest national ranking in program history.
The Buckeyes jumped out to a three-goal lead early, never trailing in the game. Ohio State’s defense also held Johns Hopkins to a whopping 20-minute scoreless stretch in the second half. Senior Alex Marinier tallied six goals and seven points for the Buckeyes, hitting his career-high seven points for the second time this season, to lead the team.
The Buckeyes are now 11-1 on the season (3-0 in conference play). They’ll finish the regular season at home next Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. ET against Maryland (8-2, 1-2 B1G) in what should be a tight battle.
Maxwell Moldovan, a 2024 Buckeye graduate and three-time All-American, won the 70th ECP Brazil Open on the PGA TOUR Americas, his first-ever professional win.
After shooting a 63 (-8) in the opening round, Moldovan shot 67 on Friday and 68 on Saturday. He finished 18-under par, beating George Markham by one shot with an eagle on the final hole.
At Ohio State, Moldovan was one of the most decorated players in Ohio State golf history, and he holds the school record for lowest career scoring average (71.25).
His win marked the first PGA Tour win for a Buckeye since 2019, when Bo Hoag took home the title at the WinCo Farms Portland Open on the Korn Ferry Tour.
On the women’s side, Kary Hollenbaugh tied for 22nd at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur on Saturday, shooting two-under 70 on both Thursday and Friday to make the cut.
Hollenbaugh will be back in action with the Buckeyes this weekend when they close out the regular season by hosting the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
In their final home match of the regular season, the No. 18 Buckeyes (14-10, 9-5 in conference) edged out No. 14 Lewis (20-8, 10-5) in a tight 3-1 matchup at the Covelli Center in Columbus. Junior Shane Wetzel led the team with 20 kills and 10 digs.
The Buckeyes dropped only the third set, with scores of 28-26, 26-24, 22-25, and 25-18, for their third-consecutive win over a ranked opponent. The Buckeyes also beat No. 10 McKendree (3-2) and No. 15 Ball State (3-1) in the two outings just prior to this one, all at home.
The last time the Buckeyes posted three consecutive ranked wins was 2017, when they took home the national title after beating No. 14 Grand Canyon, No. 4 Hawaii and No. 3 BYU.
Ohio State will head to Illinois, to face Quincy on Friday at 8 p.m. ET and again on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET to conclude the regular season. The 2025 MIVA Tournament will then commence on Saturday, April 19.
The No. 3 men’s tennis team notched its 20th win of the season this past weekend with a 4-0 sweep of USC at home on Sunday, ending a three-match win streak for the Trojans in the teams’ first meeting as conference opponents. Ohio State is now 20-2 on the year.
The sweep followed a Friday night sweep, 4-0, of UCLA.
The Buckeyes clinched the doubles point against both the Bruins and the Trojans with wins from pairings Aidan Kim and Will Jansen and Alex Fuchs and Alexander Bernard.
Against the Bruins, Jack Anthrop, Brandon Carpico, and Jansen sealed the victory with their singles wins. In Sunday’s match with the Trojans, the singles points came from Bernard, Carpic,o and Anthorp.

Up next, the team heads home to host Penn State on Friday, followed by No. 3 Michigan on Sunday.
Ohio State’s distance runners spent Friday competing at Ohio University’s Cherry Blossom Invitational, earning four wins and a plethora of top-five finishes.
