I do need Rick Pitino to live up to this promise though. If Xavier gets the win, he needs to fly back solo and make St. John's take a commercial flight the next day. You can't threaten them with a vacation to beautiful Cincinnati and then not go through with it. You're not one of the 4 best coaches this sport has ever seen and be a liar. Yeah, I said top-4 coach of all-time. Think in some order it's Pitino, Jim Calhoun, John Wooden and unfortunately K.

This is an important moment though. I know we've seen Pitino vs Pitino before, but that was New Mexico. This is Big East basketball. This is the last true major conference because they play a true round robin. This is about being a good dad. You know the moment I'm talking about - potentially from both sides here. The moment your kid beats you in something athletic? Time to retire. Fake an Achilles injury, say you can't play anymore and then never talk about it again. It's a rite of passage for any father/son relationship. Think about when you were growing up and your dad for sure just backed you down into the paint over and over again to win a 1v1 game like 21-12 on 21 layups. This is basically the coaching version of that.

Lean into the wrestling angle. Put some stakes on it, loser has to shave their head, something like that. All I know is St. John's players now know the deal. Win or you're left in Cincinnati.

Yea, adding those two would have been welcomed but we look pretty solid, depth wise on the edge this year.

Kenyatta, Zion, Beau, Epi, adding Wilder and Alliegro (although not sure where he's gonna be lining up primarily) is a solid group. Unless you're an All American, that's not exactly an attractive room for a transfer.

This is the ugly side of the transfer portal that can be downright infuriating. At the same time, it's also something that Ohio State fans can't be upset with Ross Bjork about. We're of course talking about twin brothers Darryll Desir and Mandrell Desir opting to re-sign with Florida State.

Earlier this week, rumors were flying that Ohio State was showing strong interest in the pair of talented defensive linemen. Was a visit to Columbus going to be in the works? Nope, as it was announced on Thursday night that the two had re-signed with the Seminoles and they're not going anywhere. Sorry, but it's clear Ohio State's name was used for a big score financially.

When the Desir twins first revealed they were going to be entering the portal, plenty of Florida State fans were ready to go into panic mode. They could not believe that head man Mike Norvell was about to lose the two rising stars on defense.

Several teams were linked as possibilities, with Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports quickly mentioning Ohio State as a team to watch. This got the hopes up for many all over Columbus, as both players would have been an incredible addition for Matt Patricia's defense.

Instead, Florida State was able to hang on and there's no question that a massive NIL deal played a large part in the brothers' decision to stay put in Tallahassee for at least one more season. This sucks for Ohio State, but it's the way the business works these days.

Ohio State football isn’t giving up on an elite five-star defender committed to another major college football program​

Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson is still working on a major five-star talent.

Buckeyes still pushing for elite five-star Texas Tech commitment

Ohio State has nine commitments so far in the class of 2027: including the No. 1 player EDGE DJ Jacobs. Ohio State is still recruiting five-star DL Jalen Brewster, who committed to Texas Tech back in October.

Brewster is the No. 1 interior defensive lineman in 2027, and Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson may be just the guy who can help make the flip happen.

“Coach Johnson is a very good d-line coach,” Brewster said via Lettermen Row. “Has ( had several) starters make it to the NFL.”

Brewster is a game-changer at 6-foot-2 and 302 pounds. The defensive lineman from Cedar Hill, Texas chose the Red Raiders over Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Indiana back in October. But the Buckeyes are still in communication with Brewster and keeping that contact will be key in any chance that he flips.

Ohio State lost Kayden McDonald to the NFL draft and they’ll try to replace him with a committee of Eddrick Houston, John Walker, James Smith, and Will Smith Jr.

Landing Brewster would give the Buckeyes another player who can be that future star in the middle of the defense just like McDonald was in 2025.

The Buckeyes have just one commitment along the defense line with Jacobs at EDGE. Pairing Brewster with Jacobs in the 2027 class would be a scary duo for the future. Ohio State still has at least a chance with a long way to go until signing day.

I totally understand wanting the most experienced players as a tool to help winning a natty. But in a world of hypotheticals, where does this end, where does this eventually go? Are we headed for an intra-collegiate system where the P4 schools rotate players down to the “minor leagues” if they don’t make it, and then offer contracts to the juniors and seniors of the the minor league schools?

Not trying to sound old but it has taken a lot of joy out of the game. Money aside, it was cool to see players develop at different schools. To see what recruits were boom or bust. Always felt exciting to see if we recruited “THE one”. Now the fun is looking forward to portal openings.

Well, I understand that…..I’d just say, Miami did an amazing job building up to this 2025 team. They recruited the defensive and offensive lines in a great way, where they invested heavily in elite recruits out of HS. Those kids developed as they played as freshman, to where they became dominate, and elevated them to a championship game this year. They supplemented those studs, with strategic transfer portal players….like a Carson Beck.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the $$$ they’re about to waste for 1 year of Mensah, when they aren’t even close is just lighting $$$ on fire. They’d be much better off running the same playbook back….I think they’re swinging above their weight bc they think “they’re back”. They have a good formula if they can be patient for 2-3 years….but they won’t be. Thats all….

I do see Stef & Rees were condensing more formations this season in an effort to create more space outside. Lacking OL & WR talent shot that one to hell.

Falcons have a quality OL, so seeing them getting back to a wide zone base would do wonders.

As for Penix, barring QB centric running games, the most dynamic rushing teams start under center. He would do well to understand how this would benefit his game, offensive efficiency, integrate his legs & spare his health (similar to Lamar Jackson under Todd Monken year 1)

My guess is that the contract specifies that, should Value City go out of business, the name reverts to the Schottenstein name. If they can't use it to pimp cheap Chinese furniture, they're absolutely going to use it to glorify the family name.

I've always hated the place. It's bad for basketball and absolute crap for hockey. Wouldn't shed any tears if there was a catastrophic fire. Speaking of hockey, when's the groundbreaking on the new hockey arena(s), Slapshot or was that all bullshit.

People always get irritated at me for reading all of any document put in front of me before I sign it. Once I was told I could go to Hawaii or Australia if I signed a document and ended up in Iraq and Afghanistan. I dont feel an ounce of sorrow for these kids.

If Stefanski was running the Offense with Nick Chubb he should work well with Bijan. Like he mentioned it wasn't until they had the worst QB situation in the league that the Browns Offense became inept though I would look at trading Penix out of there i hear Miami had a QB for sale.

With KMac gone, I'm wondering how the rest of the Dline takes shape. Most of what Coach Pat did revolved around him.

Are we no longer an odd & Penny front base? If so, I'd love to see Kennatta Jackson kick into a 3-4i tech on passing downs. Take advantage of his good, not great, first step along with his strength & wingspan.

Apparently (no confirmation) Penix doesn't love getting under center. He credits his success in college to the shotgun and Pistol formations.

This obviously creates a problem for the play action game. We'll see where this leads...

I think Stefanski was an amazing play caller prior to be being neutered by the FO.

His run game concepts mixed with play action are incredible. He’s done wonders with average QB’s so not sure why the Browns thought jamming a guaranteed $230M QB in DeShaun Watson was a good idea….

I don’t love the QB room in Atlanta even though Cousins has had success with him….Kirk has obviously aged quite a bit. But if I were a Falcons fan, I’d be pumped by the thought of Bijan Robinson and what he can do with Stefanski.
