2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments - NCAA: no wins taken away, no postseason ban

Deace literally went to Sparty, but he clings to the "leaders and best" bullshit as hard as anyone...and badmouths Ohio State as a university. How fucked up is that guy. In a month, he'll be crying the hardest, and I'd be more than happy to give him the half jar of opioids that I have left...provided that he takes them all at once.
For years, Deace was something of a voice of reason in the dfbia. He got banned from GoBlow because he was critical of DickRod and Hoke. And up until 2020, he was very much of the opinion that they just weren't an elite program and was admitting that Simple Jim was an overrated coach. Hell, he was openly calling for his head in 2020. Then 2021-23 happened and he became a true believer. How somebody who spent years witnessing and commenting on the mediocrity couldn't fathom that maybe, just maybe the sudden jump to elite status could be ill-gotten is beyond me. It was as if the six-years of "meh" under Cheatin' Jim never happened. He just suddenly figured EVERYTHING out in year 7. Then again, that's pretty much their whole mouth-breathing fanbase, Nerd Boy just has a pulpit. Turtle lookin' MF'er.

The Walmart's who otherwise have no real affiliation to the university who nut hug the supposed "high intergrity academics first" myth are the strangest case. You can probably assume these people cosplay as scUM alumni in their daily lives.

DE "Captain Jack" Sawyer (All B1G, All-American, Buckeye Legend Forever, National Champion, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Jack Sawyer and Will Howard Say National Championship Supersedes Michigan Loss: “You’re Playing This Game to Win Championships”

156139_h.jpg

In an appearance on the “Footbahlin’” podcast with Ben Roethlisberger, Will Howard and Jack Sawyer answered a question that has divided Buckeye Nation for over 100 years.

“Is it OK to lose to Michigan and win a national championship, or would you rather beat Michigan and not win a national championship? What’s more important?” Roethlisberger, a Pittsburgh Steelers legend, asked the former Ohio State stars and current Pittsburgh rookies.

“Winning a national championship,” Sawyer answered. “And don’t get – that takes no emphasis off how important The Game is.”

“I understand that,” Roethlisberger responded before allowing Sawyer to continue.

“When you win a national championship, if anyone tells you they’d rather go 1-12 and just beat the ‘Team Up North,’ you’re crazy. You know what I mean? You’re playing this game to win championships,” Sawyer said. “Make no mistake about it, no one wants to beat those guys more than we do, but at the end of the day, there’s nothing we could have done after (we lost to the Team Up North). We have our shot to chase the ultimate goal, which is to win the national championship. Like, in the NFL, you lose four games in the regular season and you’re probably the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs. That’s kind of the approach we took, especially with the expanded playoffs, and I think it’s gonna continue to be like that.

“Obviously, The Game is still gonna be The Game, because it is The Game, the best rivalry in sport. But at the end of the day, I think you’d be crazy to say you would rather beat them and not win a national championship instead of win a national championship and not beat them. In a perfect world, you do both of those things, but obviously we didn’t. But winning a national championship kind of erases all of that. For me, it does, at least.”

Howard agreed.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments - NCAA: no wins taken away, no postseason ban

Intelligent or not, Valenti isn't wrong that the DFBIA is essentially a cult. There's typically one of two things going on when they discuss this stuff - 1) They are in a deep state of denial and feel that they've done nothing wrong, are pure as the driven snow, and are being unfairly targeted or 2) They know they cheated, they know it's all fake, but they will deny it until the bitter end.

The Walmart's who otherwise have no real affiliation to the university who nut hug the supposed "high intergrity academics first" myth are the strangest case. You can probably assume these people cosplay as scUM alumni in their daily lives.

OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Ohio State Buckeyes have their eyes on a top transfer portal player, but it all comes down to his NBA decision

The transfer portal is closed around college basketball for players to enter. Ohio State lost five players with no real surprises coming about.

C Austin Parks, C Aaron Bradshaw, F Evan Mahaffey, F Sean Stewart, and G Meechie Johnson Jr. all decided to find new schools. On the flip side, the Buckeyes have brought in G Gabe Cupps, C Christoph Tilly, and F Brandon Noel as transfer additions.

The Buckeyes are not yet done though, as they still have a couple of spots to fill. Ohio State is interested in one of the top players in the portal but is awaiting his NBA draft decision.

Ohio State among schools interested in Texas Tech F Darrion Williams

According to Jeff Goodman, Ohio State is one of three programs showing interest in Texas Tech transfer F Darrion Williams. Williams hopes to be drafted but could pull his name out of the NBA draft process.

"The hope from Darrion Williams' camp is that he's gonna get drafted and that he's not coming back to college. If he were to withdraw, Kansas, Ohio State, and NC State would be involved"

Williams is a 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward from Las Vegas, Nevada, and started his college career at Nevada where he played one season. As a freshman, Williams averaged 7.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in 30 stats.

After transferring to Texas Tech, Williams made 33 starts as a sophomore and averaged 11.4 pounds and 7.5 rebounds per game. This past season with the Red Raiders, he put up 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. Williams is capable of scoring from all three levels.

Buckeyes playing waiting game for elite transfer portal target Darrion Williams

Ohio State is playing the long game in hopes of landing an elite Texas Tech transfer.

While Ohio State may have just whiffed on each of those recruits, it’s starting to look more likely that Diebler and his staff are actually waiting out another player – former Texas Tech forward Darrion Williams.

At 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, Williams was listed as a forward on Texas Tech’s official roster but has racked up nearly 300 assists in his collegiate career and was second on TTU last season with 3.6 assists per game. He’s also a 37.9% three-point shooter and averaged 15.1 points per game as a junior. He is allegedly considering Ohio State, Kansas, and North Carolina State for next season, as well as possible other suitors that have yet to be publicly linked.

Williams entered the NBA Draft on April 6, and put his name into the NCAA Transfer portal the same day. On Friday afternoon, Williams, along with 74 other players, was invited to participate in the NBA Draft Combine from May 11-18 in Chicago.

A combine invite is promising for a player’s draft stock, and will give the two-time All-Big 12 honoree ample opportunity to improve his draft stock. At the moment, Williams is looking like a mid-to-late second round pick – Tankathon has him going 47th overall, The Athletic has him at 39, and Yahoo Sports has him pegged as the 41st overall pick.

If Williams doesn’t get a first-round guarantee from a team at the NBA Combine next week, there’s a good chance he decides to play one more year of college. He would almost be guaranteed to earn more in NIL compensation at the college level (anywhere from $2-$4 Million) than he would as a middle of the second round selection.

LB Coach James Laurinaitis (2x B1G DPOY, 2006 Nagurski, 2007 Butkus, 2008 Lott, 3x All-American, OSU HOF, National Champion)

Ohio State’s linebackers are returning to glory under James Laurinaitis

2025 will be an exciting time to keep tabs on the Buckeye linebackers with James Laurinaitis’ impact on the unit.

Chris Spielman, A.J. Hawk, Andy Katzenmoyer. Those are just a few legendary linebackers in Ohio State history. Now another former Buckeye great at the position is working to restore the glory at linebacker in Columbus.

Since joining Ryan Day’s coaching staff a couple years ago, James Laurinaitis has the unit brimming with confidence.

During the final few years of Urban Meyer’s tenure as head coach, as well as the first two seasons with Day at the helm, the Ohio State linebackers were largely underwhelming. It didn’t help that Billy Davis was hired as linebackers coach just because he was friends with Meyer since it became obvious that Davis was terrible at his job. With the low bar Davis set, Al Washington was able to skate by on Day’s staff for three seasons.

The ineffective coaching at the position resulted in Tuf Borland becoming a running joke when he was on the field. While it’s hard to knock Borland’s effort during his time in Columbus, he just couldn’t match up to the standard guys like Ryan Shazier and Raekwon McMillan had recently set.

Others like Pete Werner and Baron Browning have gone on to be successful in the NFL, which proves the coaches during at Ohio State during that time period weren’t utilizing players correctly.

Enter James Laurinaitis. After spending a couple years on the radio, the former Buckeye linebacker jumped into the coaching ranks, joining friend and fellow linebacker Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame as a graduate assistant and assistant linebackers coach.

When Freeman brought Laurinaitis in it felt like a huge miss for Day since it was no secret that Laurinaitis was looking to get back into the game in some capacity. The move look to bring in Laurinaitis looked like an even bigger coup since the linebacker’s first game on staff with the Fighting Irish would be against Ohio State in Columbus to kick off the 2022 season.

The way the 2022 season ended for the Buckeyes left a sour taste in Day and new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ mouth. Ohio State lost to Georgia 42-41 at the Peach Bowl in a College Football Playoff semifinal. Combine the loss to the Bulldogs with allowing 45 points to Michigan in the previous game and it became obvious reinforcements were needed.

Day made good on his miss the previous year and was able to lure Laurinaitis back to Columbus to learn under Knowles. The move paid immediate dividends, as the Buckeye defense gave up more than 20 points in just one game in 2023. Unfortunately that occurred in the loss to Michigan, which led to Ohio State being left out of the College Football Playoff.

After spending 2023 as a graduate assistant, Laurinaitis was promoted to linebackers coach ahead of the 2024 season. Even in the short time that Laurinaitis had been back with the football program, the influence he had on the linebackers became obvious.

Not only was Cody Simon playing with confidence as he replaced Tommy Eichenberg as the senior leader of the group, Laurinaitis was able to start molding Sonny Styles, who was moved to linebacker from safety. Both Simon and Styles recorded at least 100 tackles last year. Simon would go on to be selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

Now that Simon is in the pros, Styles now will be the leader of the linebackers in 2025. After excelling in his first full season at linebacker, an even bigger jump is expected from the Pickerington product since he’ll have another offseason to work with Laurinaitis. Joining Styles will be Arvell Reese, who impressed last season.

It’s clear that Laurinaitis is putting together a strong group of players behind Styles with Reese, as well as underclassmen Riley Pettijohn and Payton Pierce. Not even on campus yet are 2026 four-star commits Simeon Caldwell and C.J. Sanna.

change the names of a couple of saints and it's the same religion that Penn State fans worship.
