We'll see. The devil will be in the details. Does this mean that they'll fund all sports at a level to be competitive: bring our dead last in the B1G hockey budget at least to the league median, build the women's arena and so on.

Or does it mean that they'll half ass sports that they secretly want to axe and then say they had no choice because they weren't competitive.

Hopefully the latter.

This model is not sustainable with 36 varsity sports.

I think it will be more than just the schools own development system, it will be a continuation (because it's already happening) and evolution of the smaller feeder schools acting/becoming a minor league system for the bigger schools.

Just using logic, I don't see how some version of a minor league system doesn't emerge from this current set up. No clue on exact timing or exact structure but directionally it almost has to happen.
