I think the concerns on Sayin are overblown after 2 tough performances against the best teams. He’s not TSC, but his velocity in the spring game was good. It’s mostly him throwing over the middle consistently and taking more chances in tight windows, which is normal growth needed for a young QB.

Unless he regresses badly, no one will push him out the door after ‘26.

ZERO runs heading into top 8 vs some pud from Pitt....

It will carry over, he will play but by the end of the game he couldn’t even jog. Between the multiple shots to the same knee and the effects of the appendectomy he had lass than a month ago, it’s unlikely he’ll play all the games, and even if he does, he won’t be his dominant self. There’s no way they can run their offense through him like they want to IMO

I don’t fully agree.

I do think that he’s been given a lot more leeway than most, in that regard you’re spot on. Particularly early in his career when he went from the NFL to the SEC to USC.

But he got left on the tarmac at USC, a verb for being fired immediately was created because of what Haden did to him. He did not emerge from that whole incident “sparkly clean” imo.

Then he became an OC, did well at that position (helping bama win the conference 3x and a national title once while completely updating Saban’s offensive philosophy), coached at FAU (where he was successful), and then he had success at Ole Miss given their history and expectations.

He did not “fail upwards” from Bama onwards (though he did not leave graciously at any of those stops besides FAU), but he moved up the ladder through on field success despite some (alleged) off field shenanigans that only seemed to come out from Tuscaloser and Oxfart after he left those Hell holes. Maybe those accusations are true but the fans were willing to overlook them because he was producing results on the field.

None of that guarantees that he will succeed in BR. And I wouldn’t be surprised that if he does fail here someone else will give him an opportunity because as you mentioned people just seem to keep giving him chances throughout his career, whether warranted or not.

This is why recruiting the best QB possible this next recruiting cycle is vital.

That said, I fully expect Sayin to jump to the NFL and for TSC to take the reins...the next QB class is very thin. Sayin is basically a Drew Brees clone.

Don't remember any age limitations beyond the 18 year olds competing in HS. Being held back for whatever reason stunted several kids at my HS. And, there's a select few helicopter parents that hold back their kids, to allow them to physically develop. My daughter was on the cusp, and Board member asked me, are you going to feel better putting Haley on a plane for college at 17, or at 18. Game over, and we started her in K a year after (had her in Montessori K for that year). Anyway, first thought was to the few, but maybe significant group of youngsters that went into the military straight from HS, and came out with 4 years of eligibility, and college money from the military. Guess they would not be able to compete?

Feel very happy for these kids. Most have sat behind other players and now are getting their chance. Hope all their volleys are finding the lines, and their serves move swiftly by their opponents. Good times.

Just hopeful that he's aware of his current limitations, and position coaches are working to making better. Seems (methinks) there's a good relation between Sayin and Tavien. No competition (for first year in awhile), as seems very delineated. Would wish that one of the Asst coaches would spend much dedicated time with Tavien, watching what Sayin does and pointing out to Tavien 'how it's done'. Or where to make improvements. Nothing helps more than time in grade, so here's hoping that Day puts Tavien in for significant minutes this season. And here's hoping that Sayin has a great season, and moves on to the NFL.

Certainly not sustainable on a 'top-flight' 36 varsity sports, AND have A-1 playing fields/courts/pitches/ etc to put them on. I'm used to big numbers, and tOSU's numbers are among the highest, but do worry about the debt being accumulated by the Athletic Department. Cost of Construction is hugemongous, and the debt incurred is also huge. But the facility competition is very keen, and unless you've got a golden goose like Oregon, hard to sustain. Hope the AD is using some of this almost $100million to reduce debt. Pay down construction debt and lower interest payments. Anybody out there do that with household funds? Anyway, glad am not the ones having to figure out where this goes. Also assumes that the academic side of the Buckeye house is keeping distant from all the loot in the AD department.

I think that's one of the biggest issues. Making sure the smaller schools are actually incentivized to develop guys, despite knowing they will likely lose any significant quality to a bigger school within a 1-3 year period.

Transfer fees.

It's a sequence thing.

The real risk for the players/need for CBA is when the owners (schools) collude to suppress wages.

I know it seems too competitive now and that it can't be done but you watch, money talks and the other bullshit walks. The B1G and SEC team up and it's over. The little guys (Texas Tech) will get squeezed out of TV revenue more than a billionaire booster can make up for (generally speaking). I guarantee you they are already thinking about it and seeing it. We have hundreds of years of post industrial history that point to this being, essentially, inevitable.

Also believe that the 'golden goose' (NIL) is much smaller than the CFP teams. But also true that kids don't mature at the same rate, and may not 'peak' as a HS senior as many of the 5* players. Or play at smaller HS, against smaller teams.....anyway, point trying to make is that the MAC's and other leagues are indeed a minor league for the Bigs. And very much needed, so to grow/teach/train/give exposure to kids that are not ready for the big stage. I know I certainly wasn't ready as a gangly 18 year older (not that I made it big....), so do identify. Not physically nor mentally. Guess anybody can sue for anything, for sure, but have no answer for that. But believe it will elevate the smaller universities, and they'll have to invest in better coaches, etc to attract the 'better' kids, or make bigger gambles on the kids that will become DI players, someday. Same goals, just being played on a smaller board.
