He's saying 2 different things: 1 in private and 1 in public.
The thing he says in private, he later says was an emotional moment, and out of frustration.
He is able to slowly think about what he wants to say in public, and he likely has a chance to review it with some PR folks.
If your wife is drunk and says shit about you, then apologizes later and says she was drunk and didn't mean it, do you just let her off the hook?
I think that the "most real" a person can be is when he/she doesn't have that back-up review of what's being said. The in-private things, the emotional things - those are real.
If *ichigan players and fans are half as smart as they think they are, they're going to take a while before accepting this apology.
