New coach Stein says Kentucky will win big 'because of me'​

Kentucky coach Will Stein took the podium Monday at his first SEC media days and was asked why he thought he could win big at the school.

"I think because of me, to be honest," Stein began.

Indeed, Stein gave a detailed, elaborate answer beyond why he felt he would be the one to help Kentucky win.

"I know what it takes," Stein said. "I have seen it at the highest levels. I know what it takes to recruit at this level. You just got to believe. Is it going to happen overnight? I don't know.

"I know the players that we can get here. I know we can recruit north, south and east. People come to Lexington and love it. The longer I live there, the more I am like, 'Wow, this place is incredible.' It's got everything that you want. You have to go attack. You can't sit back and wait. That's one thing I refuse to do at Kentucky is to wait."

That said, always a chance to get him on the rebound when their NIL money doesn't all come through or maybe he wants to experience the CFP one time in his 3 years.

Giving 2+ mil right off the start to a HS RB is complete insanity (and desperation in Tennessee's case)

Tennessee is setting a not so good precedent for themselves here, all upper level recruits are going to demand this sort of treatment from them now going forward, and it's just not sustainable consistently enough to get them enough of those types of guys to be able to actually be a true contender.

Ohio State is in a nice position where they don't have to play that desperation game.

Even if we don't end up with a HS RB in this class it's really not a huge deal. Handful of guys on the roster who are Sophomores or Freshmen, it's not like some dire situation here where we have 4 guys and 3 are for sure gone after the season. Stud incoming in the 2028 class and we can and will use the portal to get someone capable if we had to. It's going to be seen by the outside definitely as bitterness when this is said but DGG was purely a luxury recruit for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are happy with what they have been able to do with their athletics. With Manuel ousted, they no longer have to worry about cheating being rampant throughout the athletic department. That's especially true in the football program. The Buckeyes have to be pleased with that.

This issue for TTUN is one that will continue to follow them until Manuel actually is gone at the end of 2026. He gave TTUN a lot of success on the playing field because he was willing to overlook the rules. That issue is something that Michigan looks like they want to fix finally.

Ohio State, on the other hand, will continue to do things above board. Ross Bjork might have some issues, but at least he's ethical.

I’m not buying the part in the article that I’ve bolded. Cheating is in their nature.

It's also naive to think that only Ohio State has fans that act like tools on social media to recruits. Not that it's ever ok, but you get this from about every major fan base.

The gap between the two programs doesn’t appear to be about football. Ohio State has more to offer in terms of program success and NFL development. The divide, instead, likely sits on the financial front. Tennessee is willing to go significantly higher than Ohio State for a player who has never taken a college snap. The deal from Tennessee could exceed $2 million per year over three years, while Ohio State’s offer sits just above $1 million annually over the same period.
