Jet Greaves seeks $7.5 million. Will the Columbus Blue Jackets blink?

Jet Greaves is a restricted free agent (RFA) without an active contract, as his previous two-year, $1.625 million deal expired at the end of the 2025-26 season. The Columbus Blue Jackets and Greaves are scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing in Toronto to determine his contract.

The two sides filed significantly different figures in their briefs: the Blue Jackets filed for a $2.8 million salary, while Greaves' camp requested $7.5 million. Columbus selected a one-year term for the contract ruling. If the two sides do not negotiate a settlement prior to the hearing, the arbitrator will rule on the player's salary.

Time is ticking for the Blue Jackets and Jet Greaves to find common ground before an arbitration hearing July 23 decides the goalie’s salary for the upcoming season.

Blue Jackets Monday Gathering: Latest on Fantilli, Greaves and Sillinger contracts

Jet Greaves

We’re listing Greaves first because he’s the most pressing matter. His arbitration hearing is set for Thursday in Toronto.

The Blue Jackets and Greaves can avoid that hearing by reaching terms on a new contract any time between now and the point at which the arbitrator begins deliberating after hearing both sides’ arguments.

If arbitration is necessary, Greaves will have a new contract by Saturday, as the ruling is due 48 hours after the hearing. (Yes, one way or another, one of the unsigned Blue Jackets will be under contract at this point next week.)

The Blue Jackets have the right to suggest a one- or two-year ruling, but will seek a one-year contract so that Greaves isn’t walked directly into unrestricted free agency after the 2027-28 season.

Goaltenders are notoriously tough to value, and you could understand strong arguments on both sides of the table.

Greaves had a very good season in 2025-26, his first full NHL campaign. By some metrics, he was a top-10 goaltender in the league. No question, he’s now the Blue Jackets’ No. 1 option in net. Those guys get paid.

However, he’s had only one strong season in the NHL. Greaves, 25, wasn’t a starter until this season, and some aren’t yet ready to stamp him as an NHL-level No. 1.

Adam Fantilli

Leo Carlsson, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 draft, signed a five-year, $90 million offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers that the Anaheim Ducks opted to match earlier this month.

Connor Bedard, the No. 1 pick in that draft, signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Next up: Fantilli, the Blue Jackets’ No. 3 pick that year.

If Carlsson’s offer sheet threatened to “blow up” the market for young RFAs, perhaps Bedard’s — at a far lesser value despite significantly better production than Carlsson — might tilt it back the other direction.

At minimum, it could help set the parameters of a deal between the Blue Jackets and Fantilli, who is four years away from UFA status.

Cole Sillinger

Like Greaves, Sillinger filed for arbitration earlier this month. His hearing is set for next Monday (July 27) in Toronto.

Georgia Bulldogs (2021-2022 National Champions & Excellent Drivers)

Georgia RB Dante Dowdell hospitalized after ATV accident

Georgia running back Dante Dowdell was involved in an ATV accident and is being treated for serious injuries at a hospital in Atlanta, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

Dowdell, who transferred to Georgia from Kentucky this offseason, was injured near his home in Picayune, Mississippi. Details of the accident aren't known.

"He's injured," Smart said at SEC Media Days. "We don't know when his return will be. I don't know the specifics of it, to be honest with you. It was a recreational vehicle, and he had some serious injuries."

Smart told ESPN that Dowdell is being treated at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, which specializes in treatment and rehabilitation, including spinal cord and brain injuries.

"He's out of the really tough range, but as far as his complete health and coming all the way back, I don't know what that looks like in terms of this year," Smart said.

2026 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, Arrogant Twatwaffles, Emasculated Cucks, Feckless Marmots, Dirty Cheaters "Mid"chigan

Just sayin': The Jenner & Block investigation was a total joke; the results were determined even before they stated, i.e. scUM has no "widespread problems". Needless to say, Jenner & Block does not have any subpoena power for their investigation. Nobody was forced to respond and those that did weren't under oath. I'm betting that key people like Conner Stalions, Matt Weiss, and Jim Harbaugh, etc. were never even contacted; and if they were, none of them returned their calls. The law firm got a very nice $12M payday and scUM got exactly what they wanted:

1) they can say it was thoroughly/honestly/fairly investigated (even though it wasn't) and
2) there were no widespread problems were found ........

...I asked all the regular guys at the bar and they all said my drinking isn't really a problem.....

NHL to produce games for Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Wild, Blues

The Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes are one of four teams that will have their games produced and distributed by the NHL for the coming season.

The league announced Tuesday that the Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues will also have local broadcasts done by NHL Productions when the season begins in late September.

The NHL branching out into centralized production of local games is another part of the evolution and challenges faced by teams with the demise of regional sports networks. Seven franchises had agreements last season with Main Street Sports, including the aforementioned four teams. Main Street operated 15 regional channels under the FanDuel Sports Network brand and went out of business at the conclusion of this past season.

"I think we've been looking at this day for a long time. If something happened in the middle of last season, we would've been quickly able to mobilize and not miss a beat," said Steve Mayer, the NHL's president of events and content. "In some ways, this is a lot of time from the end of one season to the beginning of the next in terms of being able to do what we ultimately want to make it a great production."

Columbus Blue Jackets land NHL broadcast deal, leaving fans with one big question

Specifics are still in the works, but the Blue Jackets have added stability to their television broadcasts with a June 21 announcement that NHL Productions will produce their games along with three other NHL teams for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

The league will provide centralized TV productions for the Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues and Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes with the possibility that more teams may join the list before the season opens in late September.

Details on the broadcast crew and platform to access Blue Jackets broadcasts were not released.

“We are excited about working with the NHL and its award-winning production team to continue delivering the best Blue Jackets coverage to our fans,” Blue Jackets vice president of business Intelligence and broadcasting Marc Gregory said in a statement. “This partnership allows us to leverage the league’s industry-leading production resources and storytelling capabilities to bring the game closer to our fans than ever before. We are continuing to work on our distribution platforms and look forward to announcing those details in the near future.”

Partnering with the NHL eliminates the need for deals with regional sports broadcasters such as the former Fox Sports regional networks and Bally's/FanDuel regional networks that operated under Diamond Sports Group to broadcast Blue Jackets games.

In recent seasons, Diamond Sports Group was under the constant threat of bankruptcy and cast a cloud of uncertainty on broadcasts for its teams, including the Blue Jackets, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Fans curious about where Blue Jackets games will be available to watch can look to the Reds and Guardians for comparisons. Each team uses Major League Baseball to produce games with each offering streaming packages to purchase.

The Reds are streamed on Reds.TV, MLB.TV and Fubo, while the Guardians are streamed on CLEGuardians.TV, MLB.TV and Fubo. The Guardians also simulcast select games on local TV networks, which the Blue Jackets have also done for select games the past two seasons.

Cincinnati Reds (2026 Season Thread)

I might need help. Because I witnessed this last night (and he had more words for the ump when he was walking away from the mound after the 3rd out.

Whatever

Notice Reds highlights are never related to winning anything? It's always a fight or some weird bullshit, like walking seven straight fucking hitters at the Major fucking League fucking level.

No talent ass clowns. They should be embarrassed to cash their checks.

LSU Tigers (official thread)

LSU is given no respect by Cody Campbell (Texas Tech's "billionaire board chair") in ESPN article on how Brenden Sorsby was handled:

"If this had happened at LSU, people would say, 'Ah, it's LSU,'" Campbell said. "They're always going to do what they do. But it happened at Texas Tech, and people don't want to compete with us."

Kentucky Wildcats (official thread)

Stein could be a good hire. If kentucky has some money to get the players he needs for his system, they certainly could improve.
Just sayin'; Yeah,

1) he could be Curt Cignetti 2.0; however, I seriously doubt it.

Coaching career (HC unless noted)
Playing career
2008–2012 Louisville
Position Quarterback
2013 Louisville (GA)
2014 Louisville (QC)
2015–2017 Texas (QC)
2018–2019 Lake Travis HS (TX) (AHC/OC/QB)
2020–2021 UTSA (PGC/WR)
2022 UTSA (Co-OC/QB)
2023–2025 Oregon (OC/QB)
2026–present Kentucky
He just a former Louisville QB with some decent assistant coaching experience.

2) Power 4 college football teams need at least $25M - $30M to be highly competitive these days. Maybe even more in the really highly competitive SEC. Somehow I doubt that Kentucky (an acknowledged "basketball school") will allocate that much NIL money to their football program. Kentucky finished in 11th place in the SEC last season. Is it really worth it to the school to fund a lesser amount of money (i.e. $10M) to football and maybe move up 5 or 6 spots in the SEC standings when that additional money could make their basketball team a legitimate contender for a Natty again?
