WR Carnell Tate (All B1G, All American, National Champion)

He didn’t have a great night last night, if this is his last game. Really seemed to shy away from taking a hit an alligator armed a few. I don’t recall him doing that throughout the season, so maybe just a bad game.

Will be missed for sure. We will have fond memories

Definitely noticed that too

2026 tOSU Offense Discussion

The entire offensive mentality needs overhauled. I assume that comes with a new veteran OC, need a slam dunk hire.

The “limit possessions,” slow, plodding, lack of explosion deal on offense needs to be thrown in the trash can. It only ever made sense if they were doing it to keep them fresh and would turn it up when the time came. That was the bill of goods we were sold.

Turns out it was all BS. So… what was the actual reason for lack of explosives with this talent? What was the reason for playing so miserably slow and limiting your possessions so severely? These are all questions that need answered, and addressed, and I presume a new playcaller will be the first domino to addressing them.

I think the explosive plays were limited by Sayin. Alot of explosive plays came from the crossing routes which seems out of the offense. I think it's because Sayin doesn't see the middle of the field well because of his height.

The other part is Sayin is extremely safe with the ball. I'm not sure we have seen a QB that rather take the shorter pass than the more risky deep pass at this level at Ohio State since Day has been HC. His risk assessment is off for the talent we have at WR. If we had average WR talent he might be warranted to take these kind of throws. Our WRs talent change the calculus on how risky a throw is. Will Howard basically understood that and said it in interviews.

The wow plays by our WRs definitely went down this season because Sayin is only throwing to receivers that are very open. He doesn't like throwing to a WR that has to make a contested catch.

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

We were never going to utilize his best skill anyway. Hopefully he goes out of conference and not to someone like Indiana or something.

Very intrigued with what we do. Starting tomorrow the portal officially opens and you have to think we are going to be adding kids within this first week.

On defense you have to add 2-4 kids with two being can’t miss starters. I’d argue you need to add potentially a LB and a Safety too. I know they like the safety kids but if there’s someone out there better than what we have we need to add someone that can make up for the drop off of Downs.

I’m in the minority here in this but I think we need to add another WR or two. This offense returns everyone next year so imo make it unfair to teams. Imagine rolling out Smith, Innis, Coleman and then adding Chris Henry to the fold. No one has the CB depth to stop that.

The more I calm down from yesterday the more I think we are going to be fine on the OL. IMO you move Moore to starting LT and push Austin inside.
I just posted yesterday that OSU probably has to get a portal WR. I agree.

2025 tOSU Defense Discussion

Historic defense on the PPG side but not very aggressive. 3rd down issues that had shown themselves vs Penn State and Indiana (good teams) were there again. They don’t do enough to disrupt and get off the field.

Also, what? 15 turnovers on the 14 game season. I think 3 of those were vs. Grambling.

Not the reason they lost - they even got a key turnover. But backbreaking situations where they could have done more. Credit to Beck and Miami making plays too. They were pretty flawless.

This! The lack of takeaways as a whole is beyond frustrating

2025 Cotton Bowl: #2 tOSU vs #10 Miami-FL, Wed 12/31 7:30 ET at JerryWorld

My opinion of hiring Patricia was wrong and I thought the portal would bring us different makers.
Seems to me he did a really good job first year.

One thing about it that is interesting is the fact opposing QB's seemed to get a lot of time in the pocket to scan the field, and throw the ball. Even with that Matt's crew held opps to a low scoring affair. Defense only gave up 17 points yesterday. That said, his D kept this game winnable, but the offense was out of whack, and the OL really isn't very good, nor is ST, which is why they lost the game.

I'm no DC, but I would like to see what he does (if he's still here) about more QB pressures, but even without a lot of this the D was successful. Anyhow, I'm interested to see what he does with that aspect of the game, and who he brings in via recruits/transfers over-all. All in all, I don't see him as the issue. IMHO, it's OL, ST, and some growing pains, including Sayin.

This team can learn from this and become dominate if handled correctly, but I truly have my doubts that the OL will become more assertive and dominate. I hope I'm wrong about that. Day needs to take the OL woes seriously, that's been the weak link all along IMO.

Someone implied they weren't concerned about the OL moving forward after the Indy game because allegedly no other team we would play would bring that kind of pressure.

Wrong. Weakness got found out, and exploited.

IDK, Not a coach, never played, but I would treat every single game as an adaptation to my whatever scheme, and would include issues with any losses incurred. I know that would be tough but you just cannot rely on Smith being open downfield all the time, Tate catching everything, or apparently a functional run game.

Disagree with the clean. There were many tackles that were super questionable
Also sorry, apparently it remembered my previous comments lol

It’s criminal to not at least try moving the pocket, bootlegs etc. when you KNOW how weak the OL is vs their DL. Sayin also missed some (hello wide open TE in the end zone early in the game) but it just felt like they somehow thought Miami’s DL wasn’t as advertised?

Add special teams to the list. Miami played a clean game, we had a missed FG, lost 20 yards on one of the most inexplicable formation penalties I've ever heard of in crunch time. You can even add the hidden yards of Peoples returning kicks for some reason and taking it out for some reason and making it to the 17.

I'd say Miami rolled from 2h into a safety pressure from the weakside *at least* half dozen times.

The Bucks had absolutely no answer for it and what's worse, it's a pressure Miami has thrived on all year.

I recorded the Skycam, so when I dig deeper I'll report back more. Early impressions - coaching staff laid an egg of stale offense and continued their trend of slow/bad starts to the game. Only this game you met equal defensive talent that didn't let you grind them down over the course of the 2nd half.
