Quarterbacks Willing and Able to Run the Ball Have Been Common Trait of National Championship Teams in College Football Playoff Era
Every starting quarterback who has won the national championship since the CFP debuted in 2014 has finished that season with positive rushing yards.
Good article. I’ve been thinking about this since the season ended. Per the article, that sweet spot seems to be anything over 200 yards rushing. Julian finished with -44 yards for the year in 2025. Only two quarterbacks since 2014 have rushed for under 100 yards and won the championship.
Julian doesn’t have to go win a game with his legs. He just needs to move the chains some and keep the offense on schedule occasionally. It amounts to roughly 20 yards a game and likely more like 2-3 seven to ten yard runs per game. In other words 2-3 first downs or so.
I have doubts they’ll include Julian in the run game. Ryan Day never has and he’s normally gone out of his way to NOT run the QB.
