2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

At this point, the key info from the Weiss fiasco is who knew what and when.
It was reported that the university was alerted and investigated in mid-Dec and he was suspended in mid-Jan. In between, they played (and lost) a playoff game.

If nudies were known by "higher-ups" in mid-Dec and he was allowed to continue to coach and have access to university computer systems, this will blow up (monetarily and NCAA-wise). Any such material should be addressed through suspension in <24hrs.

Florida Gators (official thread)

At 464 pounds, Florida’s Desmond Watson could become the heaviest draft pick in NFL history

florida-defensive-lineman-desmond-watson-101202747.jpg

Considering everything massive defensive tackle Desmond Watson showed during Florida’s pro day, his most impressive feat may have been escaping the practice facility without anyone noticing.

The 6-foot-6, 464-pound pro prospect somehow slipped team personnel and media members following his workout in front of NFL scouts Thursday.

Watson’s teammates and coaches spoke on his behalf, all of them raving about the numbers he put up while trying to convince someone to make him the heaviest draft pick in NFL history next month.

“He moves way better than anybody thought he would at his size,” fellow defensive tackle Joey Slackman said. “I don’t see why a team wouldn’t give him a chance. He’s a football player through and through; I would want that guy on my team.”

Watson repped 225 pounds a whopping 36 times, which topped any bench-press performance at this year’s NFL combine. He covered the 40-yard dash in 5.93 seconds and recorded 25 inches in the vertical jump.

He looked winded during position drills, not all that surprising given Florida had just four defensive linemen in the rotation. But his size and strength — his weight, really — stood out during perhaps the most important day in his professional journey.

“Dez, obviously, he’s a unicorn,” Gators coach Billy Napier said. “You’ll go the rest of your career and you’ll never be around a guy that’s that stature. And then you get to know Dez. He’s extremely intelligent. He’s got a great sense of humor. He was a great teammate.

“Obviously showed up in good shape today, so he’ll get his shot, and I’m hoping he’ll make the most of it.”

Watson stepping on the scale was as eye-popping as his bench press. He was listed at 449 pounds last season, up from 435 pounds as a junior and 415 pounds as a sophomore. He’s had to manage his weight since he first stepped foot on campus in 2021, when then-Florida coach Dan Mullen called him “a 385-pound athlete.”

“He’s had numerous nutritionists, numerous position coaches, numerous strength coaches, and I think this past year we probably executed the best we have,” Napier said. “And I thought he played his best football of his career. In general, I think he’s learned a lot about habit-building, self-discipline.

“Ultimately, the guy’s frame score would indicate that he’s going to be a huge — that number’s always going to be pretty big. He’s 6-foot-6 and just the density, the bone structure. It’s just a big man.”

Just sayin': With his weight issues, he's what you would call "a project".

Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Very interesting on the Okie State front. That made way more sense in my opinion. He’d replace Plott with no real competition.

I finished reading Penn State’s thread and they think they’re set with a combination of Haines, Ryder, Barr, and Mirasola. So they don’t quite understand it. Not turning down a runner up in his only season, but nothing is given in their eyes so he’ll have to earn it. In Cael they trust.

They also have some crazies posting about Feldman transferring to Penn State. These guys can’t help themselves sometimes. They all get in the same room and sniff each other’s farts.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

Premierdrum 10 HOURS AGO
Some comforting discussions tonight.
Both the NCAA and B1G are aware of the video server access allegations. Sourcing states that evidence has been "turned over" to the B1G and that the NCAA "has access" to evidence. That was the distinction as phrased by my folks.
I asked my source the likelihood that the Weiss unauthorized access / WHAC video server ends up under NCAA investigation. Their answer? "As long as the sun comes up tomorrow."
UMFB will be stewing in controversies for at least the next couple of seasons.
Couldn't have happened to a more honest, virtuous, deserving group of fellas.

At this point, they have to cut Ono loose and get somebody in there who's both competent and capable of realistic crisis management and damage mitigation. To stick with the guy who's primary emotional motivation is to be loved by the foosball players is suicide. So, I'm sure that's exactly what they'll do because they are constitutionally incapable of admitting fault or error.

2025 Season: Are You Ready For Some Football?

2025 Big Ten win totals, odds, picks: Predictions for every team as Ohio State, Oregon face big numbers

Breaking down win total predictions for each Big Ten team ahead of the 2025 season

Expectations often define success. A team could go 10-2 during the regular season and make the College Football Playoff, and leave fans underwhelmed because it was picked to win a conference or national title. Meanwhile, a team projected to win four games can create a positive buzz around the program with a. 7-6 campaign that includes a bowl win.

While expectations vary, a team's preseason win total is the most reliable metric for judging whether a team lived up to its standard. After all, sportsbooks aren't rooting for anybody; they're only interested in making money.

While it's only March, and the real games are months away, books have begun posting win totals for the 2025 season. So what better time to play out the entire season than right now? Sure, a lot of these schools don't even know who their starting quarterbacks are, and there will be another flurry of roster movement once the spring portal opens up, but there's no time for patience!

So I played out every game on the schedule in my head for all 18 Big Ten teams, and I know how the season will end. There's no longer any need to wait. We'll just ignore that when I did this exact exercise last year, I went 9-9 on my predictions for each team. This year, I'm setting my own over/under at 8.5. Odds below via FanDuel Sportsbook.

Ohio State

Over/under 10.5 wins

Wins:
Grambling, Ohio, at Washington, Minnesota, at Illinois, at Wisconsin, Penn State, at Purdue, UCLA, Rutgers, at Michigan
Losses: Texas

Analysis: I'll be honest with you. I expected to go under here. My belief was that Ohio State would be like a lot of champions in the modern game: still very good, but struggling to replace key starters in an era where you can no longer horde depth so easily. Then I did the exercise, and this team won 11 games anyway! The truth is, it'll all come down to whether they can win two of three games against Texas, Penn State, and Michigan. Clearly, I think they can. Pick: Over 10.5 (+128)

Just sayin': Now in a similar CBS article on the SEC a different CBS writer picked Texas to lose to Ohio State.....:

Texas

Over/under 9.5

Wins
: San Jose State, UTEP, Sam Houston, at Florida, Oklahoma, at Kentucky, at Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Texas A&M
Losses: at Ohio State, at Georgia

Analysis: Before we discuss Arch Madness, let's focus on a few issues the Longhorns must address this offseason. Texas breaks in a new offensive line and must replace two of its top three receivers and two stellar defensive tackles. That said, the Longhorns have recruited exceptionally well and hit on some big pickups in the transfer portal, setting Arch Manning up for a big debut season as the full-time starting quarterback.

Many will project Texas' season based on its performance in the season opener at Ohio State, but we'll use that as a barometer rather than a judgment call. In fact, we're picking a loss. The toughest games on the schedule are at Georgia and Florida. We see a path to 10 wins, but barely. Pick: Over 9.5 (-200)

Kent State Golden Flashes (official thread)

Kent State places Kenni Burns on administrative leave as coach enters third season leading Golden Flashes

The Golden Flashes are 1-23 under Burns' direction

kenni-burns-1.jpg

Kent State coach Kenni Burns has been placed on administrative leave, a source confirmed to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz. The move comes after Burns posted a 1-23 record in his first two seasons and just days before the Golden Flashes are set to begin spring practice.

"Kent State has placed head football coach Kenni Burns on administrative leave with pay," a statement from the school reads. "Greg Glaus, executive deputy athletics director, will continue to oversee the administrative responsibilities related to the program. Offensive coordinator Mark Carney will direct on-field activities at this time. No further comments on this personnel matter will be provided."

TE Max Klare (Official Thread)

Ohio State “Feels Like Home” for Max Klare, Who Transferred to Buckeyes to Become A More Complete Tight End

155501_h.jpg

Even though Ohio State hasn’t historically been a haven for tight ends to put up big numbers in the passing game, Max Klare is confident he’s at the right place for his continued growth as a tight end.

Klare was one of the most productive receiving tight ends in all of college football last season, catching 51 passes for 685 yards and four touchdowns for Purdue, but he’s now surrounded with elite receivers like Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss, meaning he’ll have plenty of competition for targets in Ohio State’s offense. But Klare wants to be known as a complete tight end rather than just a pass-catcher, and he expects Keenan Bailey and Ohio State to develop him into the best player he can be.

“Coach Kee, (in the transfer recruiting process), he hit on all the things I wanted to hear and some things I didn't want to hear. And that's real as a coach, and you want to be in an environment that's going to push you in all aspects of the game,” Klare said Thursday. “Being a tight end, it's not just about pass catching, you got to block, and I think that's something that I want to keep developing. And going against these guys (on Ohio State’s defense) every day, running routes and blocking these guys every day, I mean, it's going to make you better. So I think I have a vision of where I want to be as a tight end, and I think this place gives me the best opportunity to do that.”

While he’s unlikely to be the No. 1 target in Ohio State’s offense like he was at Purdue, that should theoretically open up new playmaking opportunities for Klare, as defenses won’t be able to double-team him the way opponents could in coverage last season. And Bailey thinks the perception that Klare won’t get as many targets at Ohio State is overblown, citing the fact that Cade Stover was OSU’s second-most-productive receiver two years ago while playing alongside Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka.

“I show these recruits all the time, because everyone says, Ohio State's just a receiver school, it's like, Marvin Harrison was the best receiver in the country, and you know who number two was in targets and receptions and receiving yards? It was Cade. Because you could go to the other schools, and they don't have the receivers we do, and you're going to get doubled every game. Good luck,” Bailey said. “I don't know many great plays if you're going to get bracketed, but no, you have the receivers that Coach Hartline keeps bringing in here, we're going to have single coverage, and if my tight ends can't beat single coverage, we're going to have issues. I'll get another tight end who can. We've got a lot of tight ends who are pretty good receivers, and I'm excited to see them.”

Klare is excited about being part of an offense that’s loaded with talent around him.

“It's amazing. I mean, there's so much talent here, it's unbelievable,” Klare said. “It makes everyone better, and it’s fun to be out there with them.”

OL Carter Lowe (Official Thread)

Better Know a Buckeye: Carter Lowe’s Size and Athleticism Could Be the Cornerstones to Develop Him Into a Stout Left Tackle For Ohio State

155489_h.jpg

Immediate Impact

Although Ryan Day has said Lowe could also play guard, Lowe's athleticism, size and proven ability on the blind side suggests he'll stay at left tackle in the long run and won't move to need inside.

“Wherever they put me is where I like,” Lowe said. “But I think they like me at tackle right now. I like tackle, left tackle, specifically.”

Like nearly every freshman offensive lineman, Lowe will likely need at least a year to develop before he's ready for a significant role on Ohio State's offensive line. That said, he has a chance to earn a spot on the two-deep as a freshman if he proves his worth throughout spring practice and fall camp. With Ethan Onianwa expected to start at left tackle, Lowe will compete with Austin Siereveld and Deontae Armstrong, among others, for a backup tackle role.

Long-Term Impact

Although Onianwa is a first-year Buckeye, he is entering his final season of eligibility which means the starting left tackle position will be vacant entering the 2026 season. If Lowe can maximize his time, both on the field and off of it, as a freshman, he will have a chance to compete that starting role in his second season as a Buckeye.

Although when – not if – Lowe will eventually start at tackle for Ohio State seems to be the biggest question, he has the talent to be a future All-Big Ten selection and an anchor of OSU's offensive line.

Kent State Golden Flashes (official thread)

They have always been a terrible program and now that they play 3 “money games” a season against power teams their record isn’t going to get better. I’d love to know what would happen to the rest of Kent State athletics if the football team stopped being the sparring partner for heavyweights just for the check. They must be subsidizing a good chunk of the athletic department budget.
And I don't blame them for doing it.
What do they get for these games? $500k for each? Maybe more? Probably more?
On top of that, they can go to their recruits and try to sell them on Kent State with "Yeah, you didn't get recruited by the power schools, but if you come here, you'll still get a chance to play in their stadiums."
Kent State probably knows they'll never crawl their way out of where they are - a lower-tier G5 school. Might as well get some money to pay for the rest of their sports along the way, and who knows - they might be able to pull off an Appy State vs. the cheaters at some point.
Oh - another reason they're never going to get any better is the changing of the transfer rules. The moment a player emerges from a team in the MAC or other G5 conference, they're going to transfer to a team that can pay more for NIL and have a chance to get to and win the championship.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

I’m just interested in what penalties they get.

There’s no way this isn’t the most corrupt program of all time. From the NCAA recruiting violations, the pedos on staff, the disregard for cooperation, the Stalions stuff, the feet dragging to get their 2023 season in, the Weis stuff, and accessing practice footage of teams? Far worse than SMU who got the death penalty.

Now they won’t get that but this is textbook LOIC and repeat offender. Anything short of vacated wins, titles, and post season bans would be an epic EPIC failure on the part of the NCAA.

I could care less about recruiting restrictions. NIL makes that moot. So this has got to involve what I listed above otherwise why wouldn’t teams do this if it can result in a few conference titles and a natty.
