I think you can go back and re-watch that 2019 Game.

I think it's right after Dobbins made along run to snatch back the momentum, Harbaugh's face just goes empty (more than normal).. That's the moment he snapped.

I think he could rationalize losing to Urban but when Urban's "kid" beats him you can just see the decision happen in Harbaugh, he'll do anything from that point on. It was beyond a crushed ego, it was identity destruction. He couldn't handle it and "it" all took off from there.

Ok this makes sense now:

While the move may sound sudden, it’s actually a return to the original plan. McFarland entered high school as a 2027 prospect but stayed back during the COVID-19 period while in middle school. Now, he’s moving back into the class he was set to graduate with all along.
