2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

It's pretty obvious what they SHOULD do, invest enough NIL resources to help Diebler field a deeper, more talented team. I'm not saying they need to provide top-10 national resources, but they should absolutely be doubling the amount they're spending on the team this season, as they are clearly underfunding the product on the court & it shows. They badly need a legit big man, and have been inadequate in the post ever since Kaleb Wesson left, but haven't even seemed to come remotely close - what does that tell you?

The problem is I don't think the University is going to pivot enough in-house NIL. And getting 3rd party donors to boost the hoops NIL pot enough is probably going to be difficult considering the current product doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence. Which yes is directly related to the University not wanting to put much into the program, but we are just stuck in that place at the moment.

I've never said to fire him after this year, that wouldn't make any sense at this point. You give him a 3rd year but I think that's enough if he doesn't show clear improvement.
You think he should stay another year, yet you bitch and moan every game when the team struggles, as if it makes a difference. Makes total sense.

If you could change the outcome of one Ohio State football game, which would you choose?

If we are talking about changing losses for the overall good of the program (not personal pain expungement) I submit one common opponent, two games. Sparty 2013 and 2015.

Likely lets Urban win 2 NC’s and play for 3.

Take the fuckery of 2011 out of it and he probably wins one in 2012 as well.

That stretch doesn’t seem to get talked about as much in historical context for some reason.

Agreed with everything except 2012. I’m confident that 2012 gets absolutely waxed by Alabama.

Hm.. so, am I right in reading that you think that 2007-2025 would be different if Ohio State were to magically win that game?
no, you're not

I think part of the reason is because the movement that started after that Florida game to shit on all things Ohio State/Non-SEC

Asinine Conspiracies

So many things are beyond belief these days, there’s almost nothing that I hear that sounds like a conspiracy anymore.
I'm just the opposite. I don't believe anything, anymore. I mean, we were faking Joe Paterno pants-pooping videos 20 years ago. All the other video "proof" that exists now looks so real that none of it can possibly be real.
I mean... Indiana is winning national championships. Canadians are cheating at curling. Women are operating motor vehicles (sort of). I mean, show me some proof that we AREN'T living in the matrix.
And while you struggle to find a way to prove it, think on this: when your uncle says he has your nose, you might want to double-check, because there's a good chance that it's just his own thumb.

2006 vs Florida was the last time I can remember it being allowed for Ohio State to be "the team" without somebody attempting to shit all over us for something. Losing that one by getting absolutely dominated changed something in CFB.

How would those years be different, and why?
I mean, I'd guess that OSU still loses their Heisman-winning quarterback, plus top three wide receivers, and top running back. Boeckman is still our QB, and Beanie is still our RB... I don't know why we'd expect to beat LSU in 2007. I don't see any reason to believe that Nick Saban doesn't go to Alabama to lead the dynasty there. Tressel still gets fired after 2010.
Maybe it delays the SEC SEC SEC media hype for a year. But I don't think it stops it, or even reduces it.

I've fully acknowledged that the University has totally screwed the pooch when it comes to basketball. The whole program has been grossly mismanaged since the point where they completely flopped how/when the Matta separation occurred.

How do you get some more NIL interests involved though? Certainly not with the current on the court product. I think it's clear the University isn't going to pivot much more to the Hoops program, so they are going to have to figure out how to be more attractive to prospective 3rd party donations. MAYBE they break through next year. Thompson is an elite HS recruit, but they are going to have to evaluate who they bring in from the portal very well and get better results there than they have this year and last. When you don't have the funds to bring in sure fire top portal players you have to get very good at evaluating and pointing out who the best options are in the realistic batch of players.

Yet we get the "pleasure" of the same lazy tired takes from you. Yippie.

BTW - this season HAS BEEN clear improvement. Last year they were 17-15 and weren't even competitive. This year has been an improvement in both record, competition levels and tournament chances. But I'm guessing you won't see that either because you won't define anything that isn't in your favor.

You don't really have a plan. Placing blame solely on the coach the entire time, at which point the same people who know better tell you that you're missing the forest for the trees, you back off and prevaricate. Which is it? Diebler is winning 60.3% of his games - the all-time percentage is 61.2% - so fire him, right? What's your plan?

This program is what it is right now. Without mega donors (there are none) or the school kicking in serious $$$ (not gonna happen when they are more worried about their profit margin), you're only going to get Diebler's performance at best.

It would be a LOT easier for this program to bottom out at this point. Columbus in particular and Ohio in general doesn't produce near enough talent to go by recruiting alone to win consistently in the Big Ten or nationally. Columbus isn't Chicago or Philly or New York or Indianapolis. The basketball culture just isn't there in the city and it's currently not there at the school either. It can be, it has been, but it's not. It takes time, commitment and support to rebuild it.

So what's your plan?

Cutting any coaches off from the NIL funds needed isn't going to solve anything. It wouldn't matter if it's Jake Diebler or Sean Miller or Chris Mack whoever else you think could "fix it".

It's not fixable by one coach or one person.

Screeching about the coaching in place now, with a very limited roster and square pegs in triangular holes is just self-serving in my IMO. You either can't or won't see the big picture or you purposely want it to fail (i.e. Diebler kicked your puppy) and you like to be miserable.

What is YOUR plan? Just keep riding with Diebler for a decade no matter what the results are? We might as well just kept Holtmann if that is the case.

Thread of What You've Eaten, Cooked and/or Drunk Lately

There's no telling what a chemical gangbang those are compared to 1986.
Honestly I'd be more worried about what was in 1986 - not that I get these now - but at least now we have people who are willing to pick them apart so we "know"....

Disgusting either way.
