NCAA Football: Cotton Bowl-Ohio State at Texas

The OSU news never sleeps, and we’ve got the latest from the Buckeye offseason.

As we quickly approach 60 days until the 2025 Ohio State football season, the news continues to flow, because the offseason news never sleeps.

We’re back to discuss the headlines since our last podcast, starting off with recruiting news with Cincere Johnson committing to the Buckeyes. We don’t normally dive too deeply into recruiting on this podcast, but it was a noteworthy addition, and how do you ignore a name like that?

We have had a couple of new kickoff times announced for this fall since our last show, and neither of them will start at noon, which should make some folks happy, although these aren’t the marquee matchups of the fall. We now know when the Grambling and Ohio University games will start.

The legendary Lee Corso will don mascot headgear one more time and that will take place at the Horseshoe on Aug. 30. The College Gameday crew will visit Columbus on the day the Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns, and Corso will call it a career after the broadcast. Here’s to hoping he puts the Brutus Buckeye head on one more time. We talk about Corso’s career a bit and give some statistics about Gameday at Ohio State.

Ohio Stadium will get some renovations that will make wealthy people happy and earn more money for the university, but it will affect the marching band’s location. The new suites will probably be nice, but your hosts will not likely ever see the inside of one.

Some future OSU schedules have been adjusted, and we’ve got the skinny on that, even though everyone will probably forget those changes by the time they roll around.

Finally, we paid tribute to the late, great Jim Marshall, who passed away recently. Marshall may always be remembered for picking up a fumble and running the wrong way, but he had a terrific Ohio State career, and it’s one worth remembering.

We are in our monthly offseason schedule, but we could have more than one show a month depending on how much news there is. We will return to our weekly schedule in August, as camp opens and we get you ready for the 2025 Ohio State football season.

We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email. Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.

Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod.

As always, thanks for listening!

0:21 - We discuss the Cincere Johnson commitment and the latest kickoff times announced for the 2025 season.

20:04 - Lee Corso will end his storied Gameday career at Ohio State this August, and the Horseshoe will have some work done.

29:03 - Tweaks to future Ohio State schedules, and we remember OSU great Jim Marshall.

2026 four-star DL Damari Simeon | via @Damari_Simeon on X

The Buckeyes were also listed in the top two for a five-star OT and could flip a three-star Florida DL commit.

We are nearing the end of June, and Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team are having a busy summer. With summer recruiting camps now wrapped up, the Buckeyes will hope the hard work put in the last few weeks and months will soon payoff.

With the current college football recruiting schedule, late June and early July see many of the nation’s top recruits commit to the college football programs of their choice. The Buckeyes will see many recruiting targets commit this week, and are hoping for a BOOM.

Anticipation doesn’t stop after this week, as the Buckeyes saw another top target of their announce a commitment date for later this month — and Ohio State is one of his top contenders. 2026 four-star DL Damari Simeon (Richland, NJ / St. Augustine Prep) will announce his college decision on June 27, and will choose between Michigan, Penn State, Texas and Ohio State.

I will be announcing my commitment this Friday, June 27th at 5:00 PM EST ‼️ @HermitsFootball @rickymremax @kevinquinn74

Where’s HOME ⁉️#GoBlue 〽️ @UMichFootball#WeAre @PennStateFball#HookEm @TexasFootball#GoBucks @OhioStateFB pic.twitter.com/BoJdY3kquq

— Damari Simeon (@Damari_Simeon) June 23, 2025

Simeon is a four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 26 DL prospect. He is also the No. 201 national prospect and the No. 3 recruit out of New Jersey.

The blue-chip prospect has kept his recruitment rather close to the vest, and recently completed his official visits this month with all four of his finalists. The first to receive a visit was Michigan followed by Penn State and then Texas. He wrapped up his visits with a weekend visit with the Buckeyes, one which looks to have gone as well as possible.

It is anyone’s guess as to which of his four finalists will ultimately earn his commitment. but Land-Grant Holy Land will keep you updated on his recruitment and all things Ohio State recruiting.

Ohio State still a contender for Felix Ojo

2026 five-star offensive tackle target Felix Ojo (Mansfield, TX / Lake Ridge) is not a new name for those who follow Ohio State recruiting. The Buckeyes have long made him a priority in this recruiting cycle, and because of that the team is still in the running for his commitment.

On Monday, On3’s Steve Wiltong reported that Ojo has a “main two” consisting of Texas and Ohio State.

5-star OT Felix Ojo tells @SWiltfong_ Ohio State and Texas are the ‘main two.’

Read: https://t.co/AeSDVIFW4E pic.twitter.com/FqTO6jgLJH

— On3 Recruits (@On3Recruits) June 23, 2025

Ojo has completed official visits with both Ohio State and Texas, as well as Utah and Michigan. It has long been believed that home-state school Texas was the favorite to land him, and it will be a difficult task for any school to pry him away from the Longhorns. However, it appears if one school is going to convince him to leave Texas, the Buckeyes have the best shot.

Ohio State currently holds commitments from four-star offensive tackles Maxwell Riley and Sam Greer, as well as three-star interior offensive lineman Tucker Smith. Ojo would be the perfect final piece for this cycle’s offensive line haul.

Ojo is the No. 2 OT in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 7 national prospect. He is also the No. 1 recruit out of the talent-rich state of Texas.

Ohio State hoping to flip three-star Florida DL commit

Ohio State is really looking to shore up its defensive line after falling short in last year’s recruiting cycle. The Buckeyes lone defensive line commitment in this year’s cycle is four-star edge Khary Wilder, and they are looking to add to this haul before the class ends.

Ryan Day and Ohio State have made it a point of focus to keep the best recruits in Ohio in-state, and this mantra continues to hold true. Despite being already committed to Florida, the Buckeyes have been heavily recruiting three-star defensive lineman Jamir Perez (Cleveland, OH / Glenville).

This work appears to be paying off, as multiple recruiting analysts for On3 covering the Florida Gators are predicting the Buckeyes to successfully pull off the flip.

Read: https://t.co/rBVosLYmL9 pic.twitter.com/t2jh82HZ8s

— On3 Recruits (@On3Recruits) June 23, 2025

The flip prediction follows a weekend official visit between Perez and the Buckeyes. For his part, Perez has not said anything publicly about flipping his commitment, but an announcement could be on the near horizon and would be welcome news for Ohio State.

Perez is the No. 71 DL prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 662 national prospect. He is also the No. 29 recruit out of Ohio.

Ohio State offers nearly a dozen OL prospects

Ohio State offensive line coach Tyler Bowen started off the summer recruiting camp cycle quite selective in who he was offering to join the Ohio State Buckeyes football program. However, now with the camp season has come to a close, the Buckeyes began the week dishing out scholarships to nearly a dozen recruits:

  • 2027 four-star IOL Reed Ramsier
  • 2027 three-star OT Jacob Burns
  • 2027 four-star OT Lucas Rhoa

OL Kirk Barton (Don't tase me Bro!)

As an acquaintance there is very little you could do. You are in no way responsible.

Those who interacted with him daily probably should have tried to intervene. Such as his business partner, Nevada Buck who had to notice his drinking, especially when podcasts were cancelled because Kirk was too intoxicated. He had at least the opportunity to threaten a partnership break up unless he got help, and even broken it off for the sake of Kirk.
Just listened to the first minutes of their reaction to this news and I think NB alluded that he’d talked to Kirk about his alcohol issues. Some people just need rock bottom and unfortunately rock bottom has different depths for different people. Kirk’s rock bottom is about as low as it gets (outside of death).

OL Kirk Barton (Don't tase me Bro!)

I’ve been thinking about this tragic story off and on all day. As I said previously, I have dined with KB probably 4 or 5 times and happened to be on a flight to Vegas with him once by coincidence. We had mutual business contacts and partners. I also noticed his drinking problem and thought it basically confirmed what internet folks said he was like. But I actually witnessed it. And when I started tuning into his YouTube cast nightly around CFB playoff time and for the Michigan scandal updates, I saw that he definitely had a problem airing 2 casts in a row sober.

Then I decided I was going to approach him at one of the next dinners I had with him in attendance and ask him if he thought he had a drinking problem. I was going to try to intervene even though we’re definitely not friends. I was more of an interested observer trying to prevent what just happened SAturday morning. Unfortunately, that next time never came.

I feel like shit because I did not intervene despite being only acquaintances. Of course I don’t know how he would have taken any intervention let alone one from a not-quite friend. People - it is our duty to our fellow citizens to try to intervene in some sort of way to prevent this. Don’t miss the opportunity to save a life.

No, and I'll explain why you (and millions upon millions of others) are wrong.

Mistakes are things we make, errors or lapses in judgements, that have unforseen consequences. You can also toss in minor ignorances and simple oversights.

This is a pattern of behavior that has lead to an eventuality. Self destruction that has sadly also destroyed the life of another with it.

No.... this is not a "mistake". You drank in wild excess, then got behind the wheel of a vehicle. Something he has done for years. Only this time, the numbers game finally reached its finality.

Mistakes are forgivable - this isn't.

When you stop absolving people of awful, often times repeated choices, you'll be shocked at the difference it makes in holding yourself and others accountable.

Kirk should be held to the fullest account the law allows. Sadly the law isn't always synonymous with justice.

My sympathy ends at 100 mph ON THAT STREET, drunk, then killing a guy SITTING IN HIS FUCKING CAR.

You know what a "mistake" is? I was on 5th Ave in Grandview yesterday. I was 3 cars back at a stop light. A woman was trying to turn left and did so when the light turned yellow. A guy decided to beat the light and smashed head-on into to her, probably totaling both cars. They both got out and seemed ok. THAT was a mistake. What Barton did was a reprehensible act that deserves punishment.

And how do all us armchair psychiatrists KNOW he was an addict? I've known people who drink a lot and aren't addicts. Did he admit he was? Has he been in rehab? To be honest, I don't know and I don't care. Fucker needs to pay for his actions.
What Barton did is the very definition of a mistake per the dictionary. It’s no doubt normal if you believe it’s unforgivable because right now it probably is. However, I’m of the belief most things are forgivable. I’m just not quick to wish him harm because I couldn’t get sober for 10 years myself. I see this incident and I know that could’ve been me in some capacity very easily. I was fortunate I didn’t make the life changing mistake over that decade. It could’ve been me. It could’ve been any of us who struggle with alcohol.

Anyway, Barton is going to certainly pay and he should.

I suppose as someone who’s a recovering alcoholic like I am (I didn’t have an urge to drive) I at least sympathize with what he must have thought the minute he woke up sober the next day in jail. That “holy shit” what did I do must have been overwhelming. All because he couldn’t control his addition and now someone is dead and his family is in serious despair.

I think of that young man first, Barton’s family (wife and three young kids), but also what a waste Barton made of his life from what appears like an inability to control his addition.

It’s just not good for anyone all the way around.

Cincinnati Reds (2025 is our year! Haha thats actually funny)

Pitching around Judge was also smart. I didn't notice pitching around all-stars too much when Bell was manager.

Nice apparent win for the Reds. I thought we were "cooked" (today's parlance, y'all) when Santillan appeared in the 8th. Fraley at the plate with 2 outs? Get your gloves and sunglasses ready, boys, you'll be back on the field real soon.
