2026 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

It really seems like this year is an anomaly. We are obviously spending as much as anyone out there (35M) yet the staff has made the decision to place those dollars elsewhere on the roster. Stings now but I do believe they made the right choice ....

Certain schools are just going to keep flinging crazy money at any HS kids that will take it until they stumble into it actually working (The USC, Texas A&M & Miami's of the world) I think the real players (Outside of Oregon) have already figured out that that is not the way though. You have to find a good balance between giving money to HS kids, using money on guys already on the roster and to keep that roster retained year to year, and strategically using the transfer portal.

QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

Read that Arch Manning reported that CJ won playoff games in his first two years in the league, he's "Two for Two", and noted that he didn't win a playoff game until his sixth year. Like the stock market, 'past performance doesn't mean same performance going forward' or such, (I paraphrased), but do believe that as long as CJ has a supporting cast (especially an OL that gives him time), he'll continue to do well. and relative to the above, relish each and every win of a Buckeye player against the Chargers and Harbaugh.
*Peyton not Arch
Not to discount anything, but one playoff win was against the Browns. Does that actually count?
(Seriously, that's impressive for Stroud. It's a team game, but QB is very key and his play shouldn't be discounted - not that anyone was discounting him. Only 3-4 of 16 teams, or 6-8 of 32 teams, will win a playoff game in any given season.)

2026 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

EDGE players seem to be getting the most insane NIL offers outside of QB. We are going to have trouble landing top EDGE guys because of that and that's just something we are going to have to get used to and do other things to make up for. It does seem like we are focusing more on guys on the roster than giving blank check type offers to HS kids, which I think plays well in the long run but we are going to take our lumps on the recruiting trail when it comes to last minute bag swoop ins (See Wafle for example)
