Noel started the first 10 games of the year for Ohio State, but after freshman Amare Bynum emerged as a star at power forward, he's come off the bench the last three contests. Noel averages 8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. No other player on the Buckeyes' current bench averages more than 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Consistency has been an issue at times for Noel – 60 of his 103 points come from just three combined outings – but he carried Ohio State to a win with 29 points at Northwestern and kept the Buckeyes alive with 14 first-half points at Rutgers, preempting a 15-point comeback win.

With Noel out, Ohio State's next option to relieve Bynum and center Christoph Tilly in the frontcourt will be sophomore center Ivan Njegovan, who averages those above-mentioned 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. The Buckeyes need more scoring at-large from their bench, however, after it finished with 0 points for the second time this season in a big game. Diebler noted that Ohio State could experiment with more small-ball lineups, likely featuring Bynum at center and small forward Devin Royal at his former power forward position.

"It's something that we're searching for there," Diebler said. "And, listen, I think we have some guys who have had some better moments. Brandon was really good last game. He's been more aggressive. ... Gabe (Cupps) has done better. He's done a better job of not fouling there, but he's gotta be aggressive offensively. And we've got to find a way, certainly, to get some more production out of our bench."

Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

For the past couple years I thought we'd be better off we had a coach that could implement a stifling 3-2 zone on the back end to assist with the height disadvantage while still capitalizing on the athletes playing guard. Also pulling back into that zone from the zone press is a smoother transition than trying to find your man after the chaos clears. Beating the press then might also hurt a little less when it occurs as well.

Glad for this game tonight to take the sting out of the transfer portal and the men's losses. Went be a gimme game by any stretch. RV(whatever the hell that means) Illinois is 10-0 at Home so this will be a battle.

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

What is the UW coach going to do though?

Fight it all you want, it isn’t indentured servitude. You can’t make him stay and play for you. (And why would you want a guy playing that is being forced to?)

If another company is willing to pay the penalty for breaking the contract, that’s the end of the story.

Just sayin':

1. It will be interesting to see how binding these NIL contracts are and/or how they play out in the courts. Reportedly Damon Wilson/Missouri and Georgia are suing each other too.

2. Obviously the NCAA is worthless and afraid to do anything concerning NIL; however, they need to institute some standard language for NIL contracts and make them binding (unless both parties agree to dissolve the NIL contract). Any violation of a NIL agreement by any school/player not honoring a signed NIL agreement and any school tampering with a player that has a known NIL agreement at another school should be a major NCAA violation and subject to the appropriate disciplinary action(s).
