I think people need to take a step back... this could have been much worse... there are still things buried, people didn't talk to the NCAA because they didn't have to. Just like U$C and others. There was an awful lot of talk about lawsuits and stuff after the extra names were thrown out there, but nothing came of that. I'm not saying we're a dirty program but I'm betting this went a little deeper than the tat5 & summer work crew...

while the initial shock of the bowl ban wears off, in the end its 1 year and the scholarship loses aren't that great. It wasn't a slap on the wrist but it could have been much much worse.

To me this was a case of red pill or blue pill ... we got the blue pill version.

It was a slap in the face. I'm not going to cry about it, but frankly, if they're going to softball USC, this is hard to understand.

I know, I'm expecting consistency from the NCAA, and that shows my naivete, but this just annoys me. It shouldn't be that damned hard to have an established set of rules/guidelines and stick to them.

the NCAA is a little Robin Williams off his meds... you don't have a fucking clue what they're gonna do... it could be funny as hell ... or could have you in the corner crying for momma.

Exactly! The NCAA had to prove they were relevant after the Auburn fiasco and other things that have happened this year. They may not admit it but the NCAA does listen to the media.
Time to move on.

nope. A Fickell or Pelini led buckeye team is still a middling 6-6 team with a recruiting class not up to standards.

Meyer's unprecedented recruiting momentum screamed to the nation that OSU had left Tatgate behind.

Another thing about USC...sure their penalties haven't had a significant impact in the short term, and may not for another year or two. But, they got significantly more scholarships yanked, and in a couple of years, that absolutely will have a significant impact on their ability to field a competitive/deep team. We lost 9 over three years (avg 3 per), USC lost, IIRC, 25 over three (or roughly 7.5 per). That hurts.

*correction: 30 total (so avg 10 per).

30 over 3 years i think. in 2 years you'll see the real impact on usc, especially because i think they have limits on how many kids they can bring in.
