I think a solid goal for next year is to not have any of our football playing student athletes violate any of the NCAA's stupid rules. No yahoo, sports-by-brooks, outside-the-lines telling us how evil our football program is . Just a season to reload and be ready in 2013 to challenge for a NC.

lets stop with the trying to make light of a bad situation thing that some have been doing...this is a sad day in ohio state history that has been the final nail in a even sadder year in ohio state football...
:osu:

What's wrong with a little humor at this point? I don't think anyone disagrees with the fact that the last year has been tumultuous culminating in today's announcement but people making light of things is not the issue here. Had people associated with the University (coaches, players, administration and "friends of the program") done the right thing we wouldn't be in this mess. The philosophy should have been "Hope for the best but plan for the worst"....well the administration got that wrong too.

Everyone is [censored]ed right now and if it takes a little levity to get through it so what. I'm glad this [Mark May] is over and done with and we can move on. The new staff has built so much momentum in the last couple of weeks that we need to move past what has transpired in the last year and concentrate on the positives and move forward.

Some people want to wallow in their misery, some want to accept the consequences and move on. Such is life...

As my grandfather would have said; "better than a dick in the mouth."

So he knew Jerry Sandusky when he was younger.

It is what it is, no sense [censored]ing and moaning about it. Lets go into next winter hanging 100 on scUM.

I don't have a problem with the bowl ban, but announce it before Ohio State can accept the bid for this year. The COI didn't just decide to add the ban in the last 16 days. It just reeks of "sticking it you" attitude when the University fully complied and the individuals partially responsible are still on this years team.

I see people repeating the "Ohio State fully cooperated" line, apparently forgetting the very thing the NCAA cited in rendering its decision:

"The committee found [Tressel's reasoning] not to be credible," the report said. "The former head coach's inaction on four different occasions was in the committee's view, a deliberate effort to conceal the situation from the institution and the NCAA in order to preserve the eligibility of the aforementioned student-athletes, several of whom were key contributors to the team's highly successful 12-1 season in 2010."

I'd love to argue with that statement but I can't honestly do it. Those who refuse to accept that Tressel did anything wrong will continue to believe tOSU got screwed by an ESPN-NCAA conspiracy, and nothing will change their minds.

But until I hear a plausible explanation for Tressel's inaction in April, September, November and December of 2010 I'm not buying the victim card. Tressel didn't say anything until we got caught. That's not "fully cooperating" by any definition. Sorry, but it's just not.

OK, folks, what's worse? The 1-year bowl ban, or the fact that this guy is now allowed to post in these NCAA sanction threads?

Have you even been paying attention? The NCAA was going to tack on another year to whatever we self-imposed, so Duh U is likely facing an extension of their self-imposed ban...

We did it wrong. Our self imposed penalty should have been 2 years automatic berth to the BCS National Championship. The NCAA would have had no choice but to give us 3 years of it.

How Gee & Smith are still here is baffling.
OK, let's get some perspective here. Smith is the director of athletics, so his job performance has been execrable. But Gordon Gee presides over the entire university, which has seen its research and education credentials improve exponentially during his tenure.

Last thing I want to see is the departure of E. Gordon Gee.
