No pressure on Urbs for season 1. The guys can go ball out on the field with no pressure, and with a lot of anger and a lot to prove. You can still own the Big Ten without playing for the trophy in Indy... The 2012 season is about sending a message about what's to come for the next several years.

Hopefully all the recruits stay on board, since not playing in a bowl as a freshman shouldn't make you change your outlook on where you're going to spend the next 3/4 years of your life... The sanctions won't deter the class of '13 from wanting to wear the S&G either, so there's still a lot to look forward to. There (likely) was going to be no MNC next season regardless, so if anything this helps soften the expectations of those unrealistic fans that run rampant in this fanbase.

Still looking forward to watching the Silver Bullets fly around next fall. Go Bucks!

I'm glad the decision is made so we can all move on. Just some thoughts:

1) If I'm the AD of the next school in trouble, and the NCAA calls me about a report of wrong doing, I tell them to kindly blow it out their ass. If they call me for directions to the nearest McDonald's, I tell them to kindly blow it out their ass.

2) Seriously, fuck the NCAA. They could have easily reached a decision 2 weeks ago and banned the team from a bowl this year. They chose not to and there's no reason I can think of besides giving the finger to Ohio State.

3) I wouldn't let Boom or Posey say "bowl" or use a bowl, let alone travel to or play in the bowl. They screwed up again, while the program was still feeling heat from their first indiscretions. I'd think very hard about the same for Hall, Howard, Brown and anyone I'm forgetting involved in the second round of infractions.

4) How does Gene Smith still have a job?

5) I'm even more worried now if I'm one of the seven Hurricane fans out there.

Well, the bright side is that closure can occur, hiring changes can be made as needed, and tOSU can move on without the cloud of uncertainty hurting recruiting....wait! It hasn't! :p

Anyway, better days ahead. Nothing but unqualified and justifiable optimism makes any sense to me.

lets stop with the trying to make light of a bad situation thing that some have been doing...this is a sad day in ohio state history that has been the final nail in a even sadder year in ohio state football...think about this...when was the last time ohio state was banned from a bowl game? i couldnt tell u...have we even ever??...im not pissed at the NCAA...they are fucked up beyond belief when it comes to college athletics and we all have to live with that...until a group of billionaires convinces other billionaires that govern college institutions to leave the NCAA this is what we have to deal with and take...we actually could of gotten hit with a 2 year bowl ban and even more scholarship reductions...it wouldnt make any sense but they are the fucking NCAA, so what the hell are you going to do about it?? nothing so shut up...i will tell you i am pissed at the tat-5, jim tressel for covering it up, the boosters who know better, jordan hall and travis howard, and especially gene fucking smith...those are who we need to be the most upset at...Ya i know, you should be able to sell whatever posessions you own to whoever the hell you want for anything legal...but if the NCAA tells you its against a certain rule then you dont do it...everyone on that team knows the rules and they know they were breaking rules...JT included...we have been over all this before so i wont wasted anymore time going over it...but these are the people i am most pissed at...its going to be another sad year that we have to live with here at Ohio State...i knew something was too good to be true when Urban was pulling it top notch recruits like fish and everything looked like the NCAA was just going to let us skate because we are OHIO STATE and nothing drastic will happen because our arrogant piece of fucking shit AD told us nothing would....I dont know about you but as a tOSU alum and die hard fan of ohio state football i look forward to 2 things...beating michigan in 2012 and the firing of Gene Smith

Gah - Cryami is in the clear. I mean they were only impregnating strippers and getting abortions among other things. That's good ol' college time fun. No where NEAR as important as selling trinkets for tattoos.

1) (censored) the NCAA and their own crookedness. Can't post my true feelings for them or I'd be banned for life

2) Posey, Herron, Adams and whoever the heck else had a part of this can stay home from the bowl game. They don't deserve another game in the S&G. Great players yes, but they cost a whole team a whole hell of a lot of punishment.

3) i still BLEED S&G and NOTHING will ever change that. (censored) bulimia...its great to be a BUCKEYE. :oh:

I made a post in the past few weeks what I expect the punishment would be. If OSU stepped up and said a post season ban of one year, 4 years of probation, and a reduction of 6 scholarships over the next 3 years (2 a year) the NCAA probably would have been fine with that, but no let's show we learned nothing. So stupid. You're now forcing the NCAA to give a proper punishment.

Hell Michigan's self imposed punishment was worse than ours for not filling out compliance forms and improper practicing time limits.

Asked UF to help me find this. Pretty damn close.

OK, folks, what's worse? The 1-year bowl ban, or the fact that this guy is now allowed to post in these NCAA sanction threads?

No way were the Buckeyes going to avoid additional penalties just by penalizing themselves. The public outcry would have been deafening, making it look like the big schools skate.

What's done is done and I will look forward to the Urban era. Our bowl game next year will be beating Michigan into the turf and then moving forward. The loss of scholarships can be overcome with good coaching and a proven system of success in all 3 phases of the game.

I've been a fan since the Otis, Stillwagon,Tatum,Brockington days and will always look forward to the games. Quit doing stupid things and this won't be a worry in the future.

How Gee & Smith are still here is baffling. Their dismissal may have helped but it's too late now. They both looked bad through the entire process.

Go Buckeyes and deal with it. Look forward.

I think this decision ultimately hurts the NCAA in the long run.

Ohio State fully cooperated with the NCAA, researched penalties in instances similar to what Ohio State had faced, self-imposed sanctions, and still got stiffer penalties from the NCAA.

I think the NCAA did not want to be shown up here if they agreed with Ohio State's self-imposed sanctions, which was the wrong way to go about imposing any additional sanctions to begin with.

As a result of this ruling and what happened last year with Auburn I think schools will self-report less as the opportunity is now outweigh by the cost.

If a school does not self report a violation in the future in can learn from Ohio State and Auburn. It could cooperate with the NCAA or play the "I don't know" card and let the NCAA try and dig up the answers with their limited resources instead of handing them a book of answers to the facts.

I know soon to be Ex-AD Gene Smith said Ohio State would not appeal, but this needs to be appealed, although the chances of winning an appeal are probably between slim and none, but what needs to be pressed in an appeal is, what is the benefit for cooperating with the NCAA in the future.
