same reporter that worked on the USC outing and is currently breaking the oregon stuff
Well to be fair neither of those stories were particularly groundbreaking, everyone knew there was some fishy stuff going on around USC and Oregon..and here they are breaking a story about something that was already unveiled months ago.
If you dug around Oregon and USC for any particular amount of time you were going to find something. The big difference between this case and the 2 aforementioned is the paper evidence and whether they'll be able to find it. Even if this was theoretically true the NCAA at the very least is going to have to get this "concerned party" to admit to going to Tressel with the information.
You have to ask yourself what "concerned party" has both legitimate access to Jim Tressel and would have knowledge of Pryor and Co selling their [Mark May]? Here's the scenarios as I see it:
Scenario #1: Someone on the team (at the time). Guy finds out from one of the Tat 5 about the deal (Anonymous Player: "Hey man, where'd you get the hook up on your Tat", Tat 5 participant: "I actually decided to sell a rare piece of memorabilia for about 1/3rd of it's actual worth in exchange for a body art that I could get just about anywhere..") Anonymous player notifies Tress (Tressel: "I'm concerned about this and will look into it). Now this person might have shot their mouth off a little bit, enough for a reporter to catch on to a rumor...but do you really think they are going to talk to the NCAA about it?
Scenario #2: Last April during a trip to visit/conspire with Justin Boren on possible ways to continue to undermine the regime of one Richard "Michigan Man" Rodriguez, Lloyd Carr stops by said Tattoo parlor (Needed to get some work done on the Bo Tattoo on his right butt cheek). Lloyd is instantly drawn in by the glow of Big Ten championship rings sitting on the mantle (It has been so long after all since he has acquired one). Carr sees the names on the side of the ring and instantly notifies Tressel. Tressel either A) Is still clueless on how to use text messaging and was unable to get Lloyd's message (A telegram would have sufficed Lloyd) or B) Dismisses the cheating accusation with the other 50 that come out of Ann Arbor every weekend.
Scenario #3: NCAA violations are uncovered and writer desperate for attention spends 2 months coming up with a semi convincing story to throw on top of them, because really this [Mark May] is just too easy to make up.
