Actually it is more of a "our big rival is hurting". And possibly "the guy that was killing us is gone".

When App St beat scUM, I celebrated, even though it was terrible for the conference, due to the pain they were going thru.

With a huge helping of "see that's the reason we lost" on the scout, mgoblog boards.

Ironic, considering their last installment of greatness was 1997, with an all-time legend in Woodson, who admitted under oath that he took improper benefits during his senior season (but was protected by the statute of limitations).

It's just a sad reality of college football :(

It's a bigger story then a normal college football coach simply because nobody thought it was possible coming from JT.

I think that is a good and valid point.

Tressel's reputation - deserved or not - as a paragon of virtue has made the feeding probably more frenzied than it would if it were say, Bobby Petrino who has a horrible reputation - deserved or not.

I don't remember that the press went after Carroll with the gleeful vindictiveness that has been directed at Tressel.

But I didn't follow that one as close as I've followed this one, so I could be wrong.

Pete Carroll never professed to be anything more than what he was--a loose, fun loving guy winning football games.

He never wrote books telling everyone what God wants them to do to be successful. The press has a long history of going full bore at those who profess to be the arbiters of moral living and whose subsequent actions show them to be somewhat less than that. JT wasn't the first to feel that sting, and he won't be the last.

Spare us the righteous press smites the false prophet bullshit. JT never acted like he was above anyone. If you took it that way, I'd say you have some issues with how you live, buddy. Cut it out with the small time...dare I say...hickish behavior.

you mean, besides the evidence that school considered "enough" to suspend him, before the NCAA came in and overruled them?

That was a procedural trick. The NCAA can't rule on the eligibility of athletes that are "eligible" at the time. So Auburn stealth suspended him for the sole reason of forcing the NCAA to make a ruling about his eligibility.

Hey, ORD never claimed to be the kind of guy who doesn't hope to see a kid from another team snap his spine. Clearly this gives him the high moral ground over those who try to follow the right path and sometimes fall short.

He has a point regarding the way the press looks at it, irrespective of what Tressel did or didn't do or think...without using too political of an example outside the poli forum, let's just say it's akin to a certain "sin" that almost all politicians seem to act on that is somewhat selectively covered by the media, with "Well they're not the ones claiming to be the party of family values" being a common refrain for said coverage.

A quick read of mgoblog these last few days suggests otherwise. The clowns that post to that site couldn't be happier, it appears.
Clowns would be the key word there. If you hear a Michigan fan make excuses for the past 8 years then they are not a fan.
Favorite so far is it?s hard to beat a team that buys the best players. Some guys just don?t get it.
Any fan of the Big Ten (before the embarrassing Leaders and Legends division) would not be happy about this. I?m a Michigan fan first, Big Ten fan second and a fan of anyone playing a team from Florida!
More often than not winning programs are dealing with kids that don't have two nickels to rub together. Bring in the low life boosters that were never a part of anything in their youth yet now have the means to inject their disease into a program and you are left with a head coach trying to protect his kids. That is all this is. Media gets a hold of it and history is altered. Happy about this? I am pizzed off because it will be hard to beat a coach that isn?t there.

I take great solace in the fact that it has been 2,748 days and counting since the last time we lost to scUM. The counter on the Dispatch website always brings a smile to my face.
As well you should. You guys lived through the Cooper era.
I would be remiss if I didn't add that it will be nice to see your cute little clock reset to all zeros.
