Since it has become a topic, here's the relevant parts of what was said.

Gene Smith's wording from the original Dec 23rd press conference. (Transcribed verbatim from the video)

Official.site

"... we started that in November of 2009, and at that particular time was when our young men realized that they had had a violation, and they did not come forward. The subsequent sanctions are built about that." ...

Maybe this is what all of this hinges on. I recall something to this effect as well. So the players were aware of it, but we're on the books as stating none had come forward about it.

I'm guessing we get wind of something near the end of '09, we talk to the compliance office and are instructed to educate them on the rule, but nobody comes forward and no verifiable information comes out so we move on. Is that a violation? Would seem petty if it were the case.

did JT ever make a statement?

He talked for a little bit at that presser, but said nothing about any timeline. But one would think that he had to answer questions about knowledge and timing during questions from the NCAA. But those answers aren't public at this point.

This had to happen the next to last night of my working vacation, with a presser the last night!? My girlfriend is gonna hate me.

But really, this makes me nervous. Hopefully the presser tonight will have the three of them making statements that pre-empt any future stories from Y! on the issue, including revealing the source, any emails or phone calls, etc. The best case scenario is obviously a presser that makes the article a rehash of what already played out with the additional intention of slandering Tressel's good standing, which is firmly refuted by everything they say/present tonight.

Ummm you're standing on it. Of course it might be hard to see with so many others standing on it as well.

No he just can't tell because the pile of bodies has reached the level of the ledge.

I think Gee is there for backup more than anything. Gee will put Wetzel in his place if these accusations are complete BS.
