I was thinking Small did, but it was actually Dan Wallenberg.. here it is to save you the trouble of finding it.

If he is player G this isnt anything new and if he isnt this still isnt the news that would push me over the edge..........the fact that he said "everybody did it" tells me he is full of shit because everybody didnt do it

Right, but it would be pretty easy to give your suspended pal something from the game, especially something like a watch that they'd never wear and doesn't really work on a mantle piece.

Yeah, like I said though, I thought Small said that. Not sure why I thought that, but I did.

In which case it would not be an NCAA violation?

I think Payton was put on a pedestal because of the man he was off the field. Most Chicagoans--and the media--loved Jordan the athlete but were quite aware that he was a total asshole in real life and had no particular desire to shake his hand or buy his trinkets.

Chicago is a great sports town. With its mix of passion for pro and college, the best in American in my opinion. Being a great sports town does not mean that these guys are treated like Gods when they walk around town. The fact that Chicago media and fans can be brutal towards their own (ask Mr. Cutler) speaks to that. Hell, Domers absolutely HATE The Tribune for not being in love with the program.

Are you a transplant? Chicago is by far the worst sports town in the US.

Probably would be.. giving players stuff to sell would create another slippery slope similar to players just selling their own possessions.

But this is speculation on my part (aka useless). :p

How the fuck would anyone know if a player gave away an item so their buddy who was suspended could sell it...that is the stupidest scenario ever and my guess is the NCAA doesnt even have a rule for that. You are really looking for the worst in things....you are truely the definition of a pessimist. You are young, finishing up college at the greatest place on earth....you are a millionare and dont even realize it:biggrin:

I don't know if this article about Lloyd Carr has been posted:

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/college/football/muscle_carr_Cq6flDr5nvxw0wkpZWiHvN

It contains in my mind the most important quote I have yet to see about college football, and the media will somehow completely miss the mark by glossing over it.

If you look at the way they do things," Carr said, "they have all of these meetings, where everybody goes in . . . I mean, I had an NCAA investigator tell me several years ago, 'Well, we know this is going on but we can't do anything about it.'

CAN'T do anything about it? Or don't want to? This is pretty much solid proof that the NCAA picks and chooses who it is going to punish (not that anyone with a brain didn't know that already). How do you think they decide something like that? The NCAA is the organization that NEEDS to be investigated long before any of these schools.

It would be hard to prove most of the time, but I can't imagine that the NCAA would allow it. That's all I was trying to say.

I'm generally not pessimistic, it's just hard to be optimistic when there's this much shit flying around.

Technically the athletes "friends" aren't allowed to receive extra benefits either per the letter of the NCAA law. Don't even try to wrap your head around the enforcement issue there.
