Duane Long's latest kind of says it all for me. Even if JT had done the right thing, OSU would still have gotten hammered by the media. There is no advantage to self reporting. http://www.duanelongreport.com/
We live in a media driven world where "doing the right thing" doesn't sell news and people like Cam Newton and the SEC get rewarded by winning at all costs.

Just is not blind. It has gotten sold to the highest bidder.
OSU would've gotten hammered (and was getting hammered) but Tressel wouldn't have. He didn't when stuff about the Tat 5 first came up.

I do wonder what OSU's policy on self-reporting will be from here on out. I can understand reporting the memorabilia issue since that would've come out eventually because of the FBI investigation, but self-reporting Tressel's violation is interesting. I thought Yahoo originally got the emails from a leak inside OSU but that wasn't the case at all.

I rose to Taos' post like a fish farm trout in a Bass Pro Shop fishing pool going after a bread ball on a #12 hook.

Combo of "the SEC cheats" and "we're being unfairly picked on" in the same post is a hard one to lay off. My apologies. Deleted it. Never should have posted it.

That said, I think his argument about self reporting is misplaced due to the separate interests involved.

I read something in the umgoblue forums that Spielman has said that he's hearing more rumors. He doubts that Tressel would be around for the next (2011) season. He made this post in ozone.

That has been my bet since this whole thing started (I mean once I found out that Tressel lied about his knowledge of the situation).

I think that the NCAA suspends him for the entire season and he resigns.

I hate this.

And getting an education--at no cost--that most others would have difficultly affording is a reasonable trade.

They sell "No. 2" jerseys, not "Pryor" jerseys.

Well, when you grow up and actually do something that entails siginificant sacrifice and/or accomplishment, then you can feel qualified to comment on this, sport.

I wouldn't sell my Western Australia Ironman medal for anything...it's the material representation of the years and thousands of mile of training I did in preparation for the challange. Players who disrespect their Gold Pants and Championship rings not only belittle the symbol of accomplishment, it disrespects the other who also earned them. So, uh, no...it's not way overboard.

Just had to bring your swim meets into this, didn't you? :shake:

I bought a #10 jersey because it had the BCS Champioship game logo on it, not because it was Troy Smith's number. Your claim of 99% of people buying jerseys because of the player who wears them is a tad inflated. I know several fans here on the island who have gear they bought irrespective of the player.

 Fuckin' Hawaiians. By the time you get the fucking jerseys, the players have graduated. If they flew them there, instead of strapping them to the backs of honu, they'd arrive faster.

Look, he just wants to remind us what has happened, what could have happened, what will happen, what may happen, what won't happen, what should have happened, what happened means, what what means, what cars are, tax law, cam newton...etc..etc...

BKB, you are skipping over the core holding in the Auburn Newton ruling. One, the dad's offer was to Mississippi State - who declined to participate with Mr. Newton, and in fact reported the offer to either the SEC or NCAA or both, I forget how it went down. Auburn is a different story.

As it stands, there is currently no evidence that Auburn was offered (or accepted) a plan to give improper benefits to Cam or his dad. Put another way, until you find that Auburn was approached or agreed to pay Cam, there is nothing you can point to regarding Auburn or Cam that is illegal because of his playing for Auburn.

If people associated with tOSU or family members of tOSU athletes took (or agreed to take) improper benefits, then they are in trouble. Not because of the sins of the father thing is ignored, but because the improper benefits were taken when they played for the institution the kid played for, and not an institution that they thought about playing for before the kids decided on tOSU.
You would have a good point if you were right. But, since you're wrong, I think I need to remind you that soliciting money from Miss. State made Cam Newton ineligible at every school. You will no doubt recall that even Auburn was nice enough to declare Newton ineligible for a few hours before the NCAA reinstated him. They did this because Newton was .... wait for it...
ineligible because of the rules violation (even though it was still a violation between Cecil and Miss. St.)

And... the SEC has rules too:
From the SEC bylaws:
"If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student- athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career."
The point, of course, is not to say "Auburn's worse!" or "Why does everyone pick on OSU when the SEC Cheats!" And I know you're sensative to these issues on these threads. But, the fact is the "I had no idea" defense should work just fine for the Parental dealing with car dealers and I stand by my post. It's not me yielding to hypocrisy. Again, I'm not simply saying "The SEC Cheats! See here's proof" I'm saying, "Fuck you, NCAA - you have stupid rules, you enforce them selectively, and might as well be a goddamned roulette wheel. You sure as fuck aren't a legitimate governing body" if anything in that regard.
