Much of the alumni base and the entire country, however, does view him that way in light of pundit commentary and news reporting that may be entirely misleading.
fi.

BTW, not saying that revelations may not be forthcoming that will confirm some of the ledge-jumpers' worst fears, and if such is the case I'm sure Coach Tressel will get the pink slip. But right now all we have is unconfirmed speculation, rumor, and conclusions that are being drawn prematurely.

so says the poster who is okay with ohio state receiving the death penalty.

Do I want Ohio State to receive the death penalty? No. If this car situation has legs and is indicative of deep seated corruption and lack of institutional control in the athletic department, I wouldn't whine about it happening and might consider it a necessary evil to eliminate the corruption that brought it about in the first place. Something akin to a heroin addict having to undergo a painful withdrawal process in order to get clean*

*note to buckeye1, I don't actually think the football program is full of heroin addicts.

I've had no problem pointing out potential violations and problems for y'all when I see them. Which is why I was in early and posting often* on seeing tatgate as a huge problem for Tress/y'all, when others were still, like OJ, looking for the real killers in tatgate.

JT has lost all credibility and benefit of the doubt. His ardent fanboys will never see it that way (and as noted above, will probably still be on their OJesque quest to find the real culprits long after JT is gone and Ohio State has served the probation his actions placed us on).

Copyright infringement. You done dided it.

ORD I think when you started throwing around the death penalty as an appropriate punishment is when you lost most of us...... the reason peeps say the death penalty will no longer be used is because it destroys and punishes mostly people that didnt do anything wrong...the kids that didnt get improper benefits, the community, other schools, etc etc....if you think house cleaning is in order that is reasonable I guess; but I dont believe fucking up my saturdays because of somthing I had no controll over is in order here

Unintended consequences are indeed a bitch but they happen when leadership of any organization fucks up.

I don't think we'll see a death penalty but if this, or anything else on top of tatgate, is proven to be true then the people who run OSU, that thing OSU athletics are just a part of, need to come in and absolutely clean house-neutron bomb style, the WHAC still stands but there is no one left inside.

i see you've added an "if."

This is essentially a broad based program of providing improper benefits and active complicity within the athletic department and compliance office to maintain it.

Which is a far cry from:

I'm at the point where I wouldn't be disappointed if the ncaa gave us the death penalty.
There are many OSU fans who have shifted towards accepting or understanding why Tressel and/or others may be let go because of this.

That's much different than not being disappointed if it happened.

Whether you oppose termination, are defeated, jaded or lusting for justice and cleansing, it still seems like a pretty disappointing outcome.

I dont disagree....I just want to stand in the parking lot in the fall and drink beer I dont care who is at the helm. Death penalty means no football at all....Im not as much a defender of Tress as I am the act of Ohio State football

Quote one a more thoughtful and accurate description of how I feel. Quote two should have been amended with, "should all this prove true." In that case, I wouldn't be disappointed. I'd be disappointed that actions happened at the hands of those in whom much trust and responsibility was placed by the university and they let us down. I wouldn't be disappointed in the punishment--whatever form it might take--and would consider it a necessary catharsis on the road to cleaning things up.

At the end of the day, I'm just pretty disgusted and exhausted by all the crap. Five months ago, I could have put it off, saying let the athletic department and ncaa investigate and see if there's anything to it. Today, I pretty much am inclined to believe it until it's disproven. In light of tattoogate and then emailgate, I really don't consider that an unrealistic outlook.

So you're actively choosing to relive how the scabs were gouged out by bigger blades?

A poster brought up potential improprieties of the exact nature people are currently trying to shout down 2 months ago. If its that well known then it stands to reason that anyone looking has a pretty good chance of finding something.

Sorry if things like that are somewhat uncomfortable for anyone. I don't see it as actively choosing to relive anything, I see it as looking at relevant information.

Yup. I've said at least once in one of the threads that I have heard rumblings of this stuff around campus. I knew which dealer (one of them) was involved before I read the story. I'd be surprised if nothing came of it. It's a pretty terribly kept secret.

Now, do I think the administration had anything to do with it? Not so sure about that. Not going to jump to any conclusions one way or the other.
