He signed a document swearing he knew of no violations when he in fact did.

That is lying.

Pearl lied more/worse but both lied to the NCAA about violations they knew existed.

I know what lying is. I'm saying that because you heard someone got murdered and lied to the cops about it doesn't put your ass on trial for manslaughter.

???????? I have no doubt that Tress told them everything. If he misled them again after everything that's happened, it would mean that he is either stupid - or the type of person that would be dishonest after being asked specifically about what happened. He is neither, IMO.

I think he made a bad judgment call thinking he had it all covered internally. Incredibly talented people who are skilled, high achievers get a sort of invincibility thing going sometimes. An "I got this.." mentality.....because they in fact have "got it" 99.9% of the time. I believe that he was greatly embarrassed and humiliated by the revelations, and that he told tOSU everything he knew in January. I refuse to believe that there has not been FULL disclosure after all that has happened.

That would be simply mind-boggling.

Agreed, but I'm not about to post something as fact when there's no way for me to verify it.

Nothing could be further from the truth. If you let your opinions be formed by a bunch of internet boards or internet media, then I can see why you would come to this conclusion. I encourage you to get out and speak to some people that are actually involved in athletics. Every single one of them will tell you the whole thing wreaks of NCAA hypocrisy 101. Why do you think so many coaches have come to JT's defense?

How do you make the leap that I haven't spoken to people about this? A bit presumptous, eh? I am a teacher and come in contact with several hundred people a day. I can tell you that public perception outside Buckeye fandom is negative. Deal with it. I've talked with numerous graduates of other colleges and not a single one has been sympathetic. And, as for media talking heads, it's not just internet boards...even the OSU student paper ran an editorial calling for Coach Tressel's firing. Outside of of other coaches, support for Jim Tressel outside of the Buckeye Nation is scant. You can still supoort Coach Tressel (I do), but take off the scarlet glasses.

The negative perception of tOSU was there pre tat-gate. This just gives the haters more fuel. Don't fool yourself thinking this turned the masses against the program. Especially in B10/Pac10 country. The haters are rampant and have been for decades.

Perception has been negative for fifty fucking years. As a great philosopher once said..."Haters gonna hate".

Your adamant about trying to get people to believe that what Tressel did is the same thing as what Pearl did aren't you?

No, I have said (more than once) that they did not do the same thing. I do think that it is possible that the NCAA might view them in a more similar light than we hope. I think that all depends on what the NCAA asked Tress in December, if anything. If they did not ask him anything about when he first knew about this---then the two violations are quite different.

You are adamant about thinking that Tressel did not commit a violation in April, aren't you?

Are you suggesting that Coach Tressel was lying in his press conference with Gene and Gee? Because that is what you are suggesting with that line of thought. And if he'd lie about many of the things he said in the presser (at least the things contradicting your theory), then everybody's theory is shot to Hell.So.....uh...........no.

I also felt during that entire [ordeal? Definitely missed a word] that I upheld the highest confidentiality that made it safer for our young people. I asked for a little advice as to how I should've taken this forward. I've learned that I probably needed to go to the legal counsel person at the university and get some help as to how you handle criminal investigations and confidentiality and perhaps gain the protection that you might need from within the process.

But - WOW!!!!! The red indicates that he indeed did ask for advice - only not from tOSU counsel or compliance!! That is the missing story, and the likely reason that Gee and Gene were not as upset about it. I am surmising, but it appears that he sought some bad advice as to what to do about it. And, while not a defense to duty to report, it may be a mitigating factor if he got bad advice/legal advice from a third party that was a big part of his decision not to report. Now, will that hold water for the entire April to December period I do not know but it may provide some cover, or at least an explanation.

I had not noticed that before, but that would in fact explain the nodding head in response to the question about "did you forward it on".

Well, Clouseau, I noticed that statement right away. But he could be saying that he asked for advice sometime in the Jan, 2011 to March, 2011 timeframe; in order to learn (after the fact of the emails being uncovered) how he should handle such a situation if it occurs again. Reading the next sentence after the JT words you highlighted in red makes it sound that way to me.

But it's still possible that he was talking about asking for advice in 2011, but had actually forwarded the emails or at least asked somebody for advice about how to proceed after receiving them last spring.

First, the "should've" can be interpreted a lot of ways, but, yeah, seems like an after the fact thing to me.

Now, question... if he did forward them in the spring (or sometime before September) to someone else...

Well, my question is this, I beleive a Freedon of Information request has been made... and has that been fulfilled (I thought it was, and that's how we got the emails without the redacted info) and if it was fulfilled, would it include the forwarded emails? (I don't know how these requests work, do they have to ask for specific info, or can they just say, "I want all your [Mark May]")

(Now, I suppose, Tress might have forwarded them to a personal account and dealt with it from there... Now, that sounds pretty conspiratorial, but, I have all my business email forwarded to a different account... well... I actually have all my email addresses forward to a Unified message system, so, you can get an email from one account and forward it with another without even thinking about it)

After the recent press conference, most people assumed that a FOIA request had uncovered the emails from April and June, 2011. Many assumed that Yahoo uncovered them, or assumed that tOSU uncovered them when doing research for the NCAA appeal trying to reduce the 5-game suspensions. But the emails were actually uncovered by somebody at the University researching something related to Big Ten expansion. That was a minor news item that came out a day or two after the press conference.

However, I think it's safe to assume that at this point, there are a handful of reporters (and other 'yahoos') who have submitted FOIA requests for the email accounts of JT, Smith, and Gee for at least the last 12 months.

It's an advantage that private schools like Miami and USC have, I'm pretty sure that they're not subject to FOIA requests since their higher-ups aren't state employees.
