WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

I'm not advocating. Just thought I read a recent JT quote somewhere saying he'd get a few spring practice reps on D. Since I can't seem to find it again, however, it may have simply been the crack speaking :)

There was a newspaper article some time back stating that Ginn had some minor dings that needed to heal prior to football season and (at the encouragement of JT if I recall correctly) he had decided to skip track as a result.

TG Sr. said the same thing when he was on 1460 a little while back.

Please list your source when you give a quote like this. I am curious as to whether this came from a free source or not. It could have, but the only places I saw it earlier yesterday were on pay sites
All I included in the quote were words spoken by JT at a public press conference. They are Tressel's words, not Bucknuts' or anyone else's. When a public figure speaks to the public media, on the record, his words are in the public domain. No one can copywrite them, claim them as their own, or charge others for quoting them.

Was anyone on this board calling for him to play both ways full time?
I know I wasnt, and I dont think too many were.
Most of us were calling for goal line/red zone applications only.
Feeling a little defensive, Strohs? It was nothing personal. There were plenty of people here back in January/February reminding us all what a great corner Ginn was in High School, defensive player of the year, etc. etc. etc. There were dozens of references to Chris Gamble as the prototype -- though perhaps not from you, Stroh's. You will probably get your wish and see Teddy play corner in the redzone or nickel in big games. But JT has made it abundantly clear that Ted Ginn Jr. is an offensive player first and foremost at tOSU. And he isn't going to kill the goose that's laying all these golden eggs by working him to death or tearing up his hammy. Fresh legs, Strohs, fresh legs!

I'd like to see this scenario:

We establish a legitimately productive running game & our WR corps become a huge threat with sufficient depth (without TG). THEN...and only then would I like to see Ted on the corner. He would be an amazing cover guy though I bet.

So what public domain did you get that quote from? Don't dodge the bullet, just answer the question he asked.

While I understand how much we might lose on offense by putting Teddy on D at all, does the guy have a legit shot at playing WR in the pros? Maybe someone who knows about developing college players can comment on this, but he seems like he's rail thin and won't bulk up too much. I could see him being a return man, but Santana Moss is heavier than him and 2-4 inches shorter (making him bulkier and less lanky).

If Teddy's best position is CB, wouldn't you want to play the position? I mean I realize you do what's best for the team, but what if Teddy is all he's cracked up to be at corner? You would have two lockdown corners, and could bring in an Everett if Teddy wasn't physical enough. If we had two guys that could play man to man, we could put 8 in the box and be a pretty scary defense most of the time.

I guess I feel like we might be screwing Teddy's chances in the NFL at corner by sticking him solely on the offensive side of the ball. From our team's perspective I understand the decision, it just doesn't seem beneficial for him.
