WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

I saw him play QB in HS too. I don't recall him throwing the ball very much in the game I was at (Perry). I believe he took all his snaps from the 'gun and either handed off or ran most of the time. When he did throw, as VG said, he was effective probably because of the other team selling out to "try" to stop his running. I looked it up and he finished with 931 passing yards, 12 TDs, and only 2 INT. He ran for 850 yards and 13 TDs.

And Tressel said that Ginn was going to throw one time in the game yesterday, but there were only 10 on the field, so they had to burn a timeout (and apparently change the play as well).

I think TGII might be the most hyped returning player in tOSU history...and he will only be a Sophomore. Maybe that's part of the reason he will be so hyped up...because he's young and believe it or not, should improve. Wouldn't you love to see TGII nab two Heismans and tie Archie's record. That would be unreal!

Ginn compares to what great player?

I have been trying to think of what previous player, whether it is professional or college, that Ginn reminds me of. For the life of me I can't come up with a good comparison. He has such a unique set of gifts (speed, agility, vision, more speed, electricity) that it is hard to find a comparison. It seems Ginn's only weakness may be his strength.

At first I was thinking of Galloway, but Joey had way more strength then Ginn and Ginn has more moves then Joey IMHO.

Any ideas on whom Ginn compares too?

Deion? I don't know either. And making the Sanders comparison doesn't leave me feeling entirely comfortable.

Galloway is good in terms of speed but I agree Ginn's lateral movement and vision is well beyond Joey.

A few names that popped in my head were Freddie Millins and David Palmer from Bama a few years back, Dante Hall is a good comparison in speed and "shake," Peter Warrick is a solid comparison but his speed was not up to par with Teddy....however, Devin Hester may be the closest comparison to anyone in today's game.

The only way he compares to Deion is in his explosiveness when he gets the ball.

Fortunately TGII doesn't have the attitude/ego and he can catch the ball on offense, not just on defense. I don't think Deion has ever been considered a team player either, I don't imagine him ever willing to take a snap out of the shot and run up the gut

I had some thoughts of Barry Sanders last night - Ginn makes a 5-yard loss look spectacular.

His reception in the flat when he danced around four defenders before cutting across field for the big run - Vernon Grant tried tackling him twice and completely fanned both times.

The guys on the broadcast last night came pretty close to describing Teddy. "He's playing for EA Sports."

To find someone to compare him to, you would have to design a super-player on PlayStation. There has never been a real-life player with Teddy's entire skill set -- speed, quickness, football savvy, vision, body control, self-confidence, humility, etc. etc. etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. He is a once-in-a-lifetime football player.
