WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

I'd be getting into his ear about how all of our true freshman wideouts had receptions in their first career games and 2 of them were for td's.

Actually, that might not be a very good thing to tell him. The Buckeyes didn't look as "thin" at WR on Saturday as they probably did the day before the game. Toss in the fact that our Buckeyes already have a couple 08 commits from some pretty good receivers and perhaps Mr. Thomas is starting to think that Ohio State might not be as sure a bet for instant playing time as he may have been previously thinking.

If early playing time is what the kid desires, Maryland (or Illinois) might just be his best bet. I don't know if this particular line of thinking plays into the decisions of many high school recruits out there but if it were me I would have to seriously consider these things before leaving my home state to go to a school where I might have to sit the bench for a couple seasons when, I could stay closer to home, get basically the same education, and play right away on top of that.

Most of these highly rated kids are probably all thinking the same thing anyway and thats, "early PT, 3 years max and on to the League for a million dollar payday, cha-ching". Honestly, they ALL probably are thinking that same thing. Hell, I would be too.

The kid should do what's best for him. That's what someone should be getting in his ear and saying. Not, pssst, hey look at what the Buckeye freshmen WRs did last Saturday. Lamaar Thomas, do what is best for you. If that means you're a Buckeye, wonderful. If you want to stay home in Maryland, that's fine too as long as it works for you.

I usually refrain from contributing to recruiting threads because I see that it most of the time ends up turning into a pathetic soap opera where a bunch of grown men waste untold amounts of time agonizing over the higher education choices of dozens of 18 year old kids that they have never met and probably never will meet. A ridiculous circus is what it has become.

All of these recruits are like popcorn kernels. Some pop and some don't. Alot of times the ones that don't pop get agonized over a whole lot more than the ones that do pop. Sillyness. Wake me up on National LOI day and tell me who signed with my Buckeyes. That's when I start to get interested in the kids.

Go Buckeyes!!!

This is one of the prospects discussed in the Rumor Mill tidbit thread...Hazell will be there Friday night.

Weekly recruiting roundup
Lamaar Thomas has been somewhat of a dream recruit for Maryland fans.

Despite playing just down the road from College Park at Friendly High School in Ft. Washington, Thomas (a four-star running back) has long been enamored with a certain Midwest power.

A column in the Rocky Mount (N.C.) Telegram late last week that bemoaned North Carolina?s running back options made note of what many recruiting followers have felt regarding Thomas and said power.

The best available running back, Lamaar Thomas, is likely headed to Ohio State.

For a long time, there was a strong possibility that was true ? Thomas has admitted as much. But according to this Scout.com article, while OSU is still very much in the mix, the Buckeyes now have company at the top in Illinois and Maryland.

He says the Terps are recruiting him the hardest. "It's home," he said. "It's only 20 minutes away and it would be great to be close, but it's not like it's a big thing.

"I like how they plan on using me. They said they want me at running back and that they'd want me in open space and give me the ball. I really think that Maryland is gonna be solid this season and should be able to be a dominating team in the ACC."

According to Scout, Thomas will make his official visits to College Park, Columbus and Champaign on back-to-back-to-back weekends, starting with Maryland?s Sept. 13 date with West Virginia. His decision should come shortly after the Illinois trip.

Lamaar was very impressed by Coach Hazell's visit but does admit he is having doubts about playing WR.

I'm confused about this position thing. From what I understand OSU recruits kids by speed, big speed and power. So, why would OSU give him the impression that he WILL be a WR.

For example, Torrence was a dB but is now a wr, same with Schwartz? So why let this kid have the impression that RB is out of the question. If he proves himself at RB, I'm sure he will play RB.

I disagree.. I think they just dont project him as RB.. Not to mention our depth is ridiculous there right now.. Hazell loves this kid as a WR, that's why we're telling him WR.. Just my opininon..

I've always been a little worried about this kid due to his desire to get carries, and now it seems like the other coaching staffs have been in his ear about this

A smart recruiter, working against us might try to sell the "your a RB" thing to him.
Knowing that he is too small for RB but just to get him to commit.
Bait and switch.
"We think your our top RB recruit!" :shake:
He commits, then it's:
"We think you would be a dynamic WR for us and in the NFL!"

They told Devoe Torrence that he would be the only prospect recruited as a RB in the 08 class and it looks as though they are standing by their word. They may be eyeballing some kids for the 09/10 classes at RB, who knows why the promise to Torrence but it apparently was given.

JT and Co wants Lamaar and it looks as though they have him fitting into our system as ATH/WR in the 08 class, which very well may change depending on the team's needs when the actual time comes and depending on unforseen circumstances that come about he could play many positions based on his skill.

Winning is the most important part here. Which team does he think gives him the best chance to win? which team will give him the best chance to showcase his skill that will translate to the NFL? From his list one schoo stands clear...tOSU!
