WR Ray Small (official thread)

HUGE loss in the punt return game as far as I'm concerned.

I agree kind of...we have other guys that if Small does in fact not end up playing much (or at all) we have other guys that can step up. Lamaar or even Saine wouldn't be too bad back there. As long as we have someone back there that has a potential to make a big return and holds onto the ball, I'm fine with whoever is back there.

With respect to Ray's recent difficulties, I'll say my concern is almost entirely for Ray's future and very little for the Buckeyes' outlook for 2009. That isn't a knock on Ray; it's an expression of confidence in our other WRs.

[sarcasm]If you guys want, I'll write a letter to Tressel asking him to let Ray and Rose play.[/sarcasm]

I think you should. I didn't have much luck with the letter I wrote to Ray. :sad2:

RAY, COME ON BACK FOR ONE MORE YEAR--- DEMAND THE BALL FROM TRESSEL AND CHALLENGE FOR THE HEISMAN. GO TO THE NFL AS ONE OF THE TOP TALENTS TO EVER PLAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL not as a good wr with great speed.

There are no guarantee's -- ever -- but Ray - YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPPEN. Get your A** back to OSU and be the best you can be!! And Coach --- free the reigns -- if Ray comes back you use him any way you can -- RAY GUN -- RB , WR, CB - - I don't care

And this injury crap is overated --- TAKE A COUNT -- WHAT'S THE % OF COLLEGE PLAYERS WHO HAVE THEIR CAREERS RUINED BY INJURY THEIR SENIOR YEAR ---- IS IT EVEN AS HIGH AS 2%???

THE UPSIDE FOR SMALL AND OSU IF HE COMES BACK IS MUCH HIGHER THAN A FREAK HAPPENING THAT HE RUINS HIS NFL CAREER.

IF RAY COMES BACK HE'S GOING TO MAKE HIS NFL CAREER NOT RUIN IT - AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I'D TELL HIM

NO ROBO, NO HARTLINE NO BEANIE --- THIS IS HIS TEAM NEXT YEAR
BE A LEADER, RAY

Agreed. I just feel like the return game is exponentially better when you have someone running kicks who has taken it to the house before in a game, (and came close again), compared to someone who doesn't have a lot of reps. But I agree that we have plenty of athletes that can step in and do the job well so we'll see once the practices get started..

I don't think that has a lot to do with it. He was a 5* recruit who has let his opportunity slip away... very similar to Eugene Clifford. The only difference with Small is his downfall was a slow saga that dragged out over a few seasons. I don't think the Glenville issue came in to play very much.
