WR Ray Small (official thread)

I think we're putting too much into this though... I think the Running game will still be our strong point, and I think they just want to get him some playing time in this game so they can play him a lot against u-dub. It just wouldn't be smart to play Ray next week for the first time of the year, he has to manage some rythme and cohesion with the offense.

Ray's basically a luxury at this time. We have plenty of guys who can play WR which was evidenced last week. Ray's major contributions imo are going to be on special teams this week. He may get a couple passes thrown his way but I'd look for him to be returning punts and playing the slot on offense in 3 WR sets on occasion. Sanzenbacher and Washington are young studs that we can plug in. Small just has to get his game feet back under him. We don't need him to be Teddy Ginn this week and coach knows that.

Ray Small

Hey anyone know whats the word on Ray Small? im out of state and haven't been able to see the first 2 games, but noticed hes not on the stats sheet....i heard things about him going into the season (being a KR and Speedy ginn type wideout) any known reason he's not getting playing time?

Right im new to the forum

Thanks for the tip...and unfortunately i have no ohio state coverage living out of state so i just found this site...I see he's coming off an ankle injury hopefully get some reps against UW, hopefully the Defense can keep it up and maybe a lil offense too so we can get a win in Wa and get this years team into the big picture...its nice to see Washington is turning out to be a nice out of conference game.

I haven't heard or seen anything about Ray , other than he has been injured. The big thing in my mind is that he hasn't played at all and not much since he was knocked out. So I am starting to question if he will play much at all. Sure hope I am wrong but his absence makes a big question mark. I would love to see him become a staple of the team.

I really think Ray is going to be a key part of our offense. Hartline and Robiskie are fast but Ray has that extra gear and I think he can be a great deep threat. I am really hoping to see Ray 100% healthy and playing on Saturday.

This offense really misses Ray Small. :(
Hopefully, he plays and plays well next week.

Yeah you are absolutely correct.

as I pointed out in another thread right after the game, that big deep threat (ala Ginn or Small) has been missing so far in the offense.

If Small can contribute, it's on.

Seen Ray running routes and snagging some balls during Akron Pre-game.

Seemed to be getting around pretty well. I have a feeling we'll be seeing him in the game this Saturday.

I think we've been missing him even more on special teams. I like robos sure hands, but stick small back there and lets get a spark going.

As far as the deep threat, it's very nice to see small and boeckman in action together.. im really excited about boeckman having "the best deep ball" of any JT coached QB.. speaks volumes about TB

Small return could be huge help

COLUMBUS -- Todd Boeckman should have another weapon to work with this weekend with the expected return of Ray Small.

Small, projected as a starter over the summer, suffered a nagging ankle injury that was slow to heal. Jim Tressel was hopeful of getting him back last week against Akron, but said yesterday the coaches chose to hold him out one more week to ensure he was healthy for Saturday's meeting at Washington.
