Small hobbles off

Sunday, August 12, 2007 5:54 AM

Sophomore receiver Ray Small limped off during practice with what sources said appeared to be an ankle sprain. He did not continue, and it was not clear last night how serious the injury was. Team officials could not be reached for comment.
Small, who played sparingly last year before suffering a concussion from a big hit in the Minnesota game, is considered the favorite to take the flanker spot vacated by Ted Ginn Jr., who left after his junior season for the NFL.
The competition for the position also includes junior Albert Dukes and freshman Taurian Washington, both of whom were said to have been impressive the first week of camp.
