WR Michael "Cantguardmike" Thomas (B1G Champion, National Champion, Pro Bowl, All-Pro, 2019 OPOY)

You're hoping for 23 catches and 334 yards this YEAR or this SATURDAY? Either way, it seems like an odd wish. I think it would be great to see him go for 50-60 catches this year with 8 TD's. Anything more means we're not getting other speedsters involved enough. Anything less means he's not truly our go-to guy.

334 yards this Saturday is just silly. You're a silly silly man. So silly...

Over the season. Given that
- it doesn't appear Smith or Spencer will be passed up as starters
- time may also be split with Corey, Greene, and Dixon
- the slot will usually be Wilson or Marshall
- the identity of this team early still looks like a power run game for various reasons
- even then, the pass game that does exist is overwhelmingly screens

.... 23/334 seems like a good benchmark for a Soph. It's also specifically the statline of another 3rd choice receiver who showed up a lot in the intermediate game for clutch 3rd downs. And that's what I'm expecting from Thomas, think he's the best traditional WR right now.

Six catches for 91 yards and nobody else had more than one catch against VaTech. He's not the fastest guy on the team; however, he may have the "best hands". He's the "Mr. Clutch" of the receivers. In my opinion our best option on third down to move the chains is to throw him the ball.

I won't name names..but weren't like 95% of the other passes all directed in one direction?

I'd much prefer if we didn't have to throw to get a first down. I'm not sure of the stats on 1st and 2nd downs were against VT but I'm pretty sure about 24 times between the two it was miserable

Yeah, 3rd and inches would be great; especially if we had a runner like "El Guapo" and a dominate offensive line. However, (I don't have the number) but there seemed to be a hell of a lot of "3rd and long" situations for the Buckeyes on Saturday. Our 3rd down conversion rate was a poor 4 of 16; VaTech was 9 of 17.

2 catches, 2 TDs. Is there any doubt that he is OSU's biggest weapon at WR?

No doubt. Thomas should have been playing last year as well I might add. But he has taken his opportunity and shined, he really can do everything it seems. I wanted to wait 3 games in to fairly evaluate but I think at this point you can say he has become our go-to guy.

Keyshawn Johnson's Nephew, Michael Thomas, Is Next Big Thing at Ohio State
By Ben Axelrod, Ohio State Lead Writer Sep 17, 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Just Give Me the Damn Ball!

That was the title of Keyshawn Johnson's 1997 autobiography, released just one year into the 1996 No. 1 overall pick's NFL career. And more than 17 years later, it's become a rallying cry of sorts for his nephew, although Michael Thomas hardly carries himself with the same bravado as his famous uncle.

Few would describe Thomas as loud and boisterous, at least not in front of the media, where it's clear that the Ohio State wide receiver would prefer to disappear behind the doors of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center as quickly as possible. A shy kid with a sheepish smile, it doesn't take much to see that Thomas would rather field passes from his quarterback than questions from reporters.

Cont'd ...
