WR Julian Fleming (transfer to Ped)

Really happy for him, kid seems to work very hard and is a great player, just can rarely stay healthy. Good news is he looks full go and with the bevy of WRs on the roster, he's going to get plenty of spotlight when teams try to focus too much on JSN, Harrison and/or Egbuka.

I think it was Birn who covered it, but JSN was putting in some great blocking work all game. That type of underrated play gets you field time from Alford and Hartline. I really look forward to his breakout, because the kid has what it takes if he can stay healthy.

The best part of a healthy Fleming, is it makes yet another weapon for the opposing defenses to worry about. On the BuckeyeHuddle podcast, they were talking about teams that may be able to compete against OSU, and they had PED St as a team with the best CBs, but could only come up with one really good name(Porter), and when naming another CB, they had to admit that the issue any team will have is that OSU can utilize up to 5 different WRs with no drop off(MHjr, JSN, Egbuka, Fleming, Ballard) and then you now have to seriously account for Stover at TE, he hasn’t had the catches yet, Scott jr must be accounted for. And I haven’t mentioned the RBs who also can catch!

How Ohio State football’s Julian Fleming, nearly ‘ripped up’ by another injury, bounced back: Nathan Baird’s observations

Something felt off to Julian Fleming on Saturday night — and for once, he meant that in the best way.

“It feels like it’s been forever since I played football,” Fleming said following the win over Toledo. “I was talking to my friends in the locker room. I’m like, ‘Man, it feels weird to put these pads on, put the jersey on and everything.’ "

Fleming waited two full years — plus two more tedious, frustrating weeks — to enjoy a night like Saturday. He turned his three receptions into 23 yards and a pair of touchdowns. More importantly, though, he demonstrated the value he can bring to a first-string offense and validated the confidence coaches and teammates expressed in him while he battled what he called the “trials and tribulations” of injury.

Fleming thought all of that was behind him when preseason camp began. He earned Iron Buckeye status over the summer — the designation given to the highest achievers in workouts. He was poised to open the season in either a starting role or at worst a three-man rotation through two spots.

Then, during the week before the season opener at Notre Dame, came a “tweak.” Neither Fleming nor coach Ryan Day specified the injury, though Fleming confirmed it was not related to previous shoulder injuries.

Whatever the issue, it rendered him unable to play against either Notre Dame or Arkansas State.

“It ripped me apart a little bit at first,” Fleming said.

Internally, Fleming was torn up. From the outside, the other Buckeyes saw something else.

“He didn’t get Iron Buckeye for no reason,” said sophomore receiver Emeka Egbuka, who stepped up in Fleming’s absence. “He has an iron mindset. That injury didn’t set him back at all.

“There’s certain guys who get injuries and you can see the look in their eyes that they’ve been defeated. Julian’s the complete opposite.”

Julian Fleming made his first start of the season at wide receiver while Emeka Egbuka started in the slot in place of Smith-Njigba.

On his TD catch... this is what separates this years team vs past.

He caught the ball around the 5 or something and bullied his way for a touchdown. After that touchdown he semi spiked the ball and was pretty pissed off.

That anger. That aggressive nature is what has made this years team so damn good.

Julian is a top 10 WR talent and I'm so glad he's got the opportunity to display that. Maybe it'll take him 4 years to get to the NFL but he's stuck it out, learned the position and is now reaping the benefit.

Love these kinds of kids who put in the work and are now seeing that work pay off (you too Mr. Stover).

JULIAN FLEMING “PLAYING HIS BEST FOOTBALL” WITH THREE TOUCHDOWNS, STANDOUT BLOCKING OVER PAST TWO WEEKS

Julian Fleming’s Ohio State highlight reel wasn’t that extensive entering his third year in the program.

But in just two performances as a junior, Fleming has already given spectators several plays to choose from if tasked with spotlighting a singular standout moment by the former five-star prospect.

Fleming wowed fans with a toe-tap touchdown in heavy traffic in the corner of the end zone against Toledo as part of a two-score first half in his season debut. Fleming flashed his run-after-catch ability by breaking the ankles of a Wisconsin defender in the open field on a 31-yard pass play this past weekend and showed off his strength on the same drive by muscling through three Badgers to cross the plane for his third score in two weeks.
