WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

You typed this, then hit submit, presumably with a straight face.
Go watch his tape. He continuously got run down. Run down at least 3xs in his insane record breaking Rose Bowl performance. No where near the straight line speed of an Olave or Wilson. He might be Zeke speed at around a 4.5.(4.47) Although Zeke didn't get run down from behind much...

It's his precision route running and change of direction speed that makes him unstoppable. Similar to a Cooper Kupp (4.62). Jerry Rice didn't have a fast 40 either... but 20k yards later it never matter. My point is some of his combo/pro day stats won't jump off the charts. He might need more tape to be a high 1st rounder like he should be.

More importantly you do realize the 40 is not a top end speed test but a quickness test?

There are people that could stay with Teddy Ginn in a 40 that he'd blow away by 5 plus yards and Teddy had both.

All youguys have to do is go watch the Rose Bowl highlights. How fast do you think Utahs secondary is? Those guys are not all under 4.5 guys. Then run him down pretty easily.

I will admit that the 4.8 is dumb. I would guess he's a 4.6 flat guy. Agian comparable to Cooper Kupp.

Although Ginn never ran an official 40 because of Roy Hall it's rumored he was under a 4.3. Which I believe. He got up to speed pretty quickly on those punt returns. But yes once he was at full 5yds per stride he was fastest football player I can recall seeing.

Maybe some of the old guys remember Freddy Biletnikof. Seem to recollect he was a Raider, and also seem to recollect that his is the name of the "Best Wide Receiver in football" award. He was as slow as molasses. But his route running was crisp and precise. He created space/separation between the DB and the sideline etc. YAC (yards after catch) is problematic, but getting "open" is not. I do so enjoy watching the WR run away from the DBs, but creating space is what Freddy and JSN do so well. Doesn't Michael Thomas (Saints wr, nee Buckeye wr) do oh so well as well?

I’d still venture to bet he’ll be a top half first rounder regardless if he returns this year. Quite frankly if I’m his agent I’d ask him to consider the Nick Bosa route. Focus solely on rehab and get ready for the next step. At this point I’m just not sure the value is there in working to return.

Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't pull a Bosa, and stay out to prepare (and heal) for the NFL draft. After all, college is supposed to train one to make a living, no? Anyway, JSN doesn't have anything left to prove, in my opinion. AND, it appears that tOSU WR corps is humming along pretty well without him. Expect that Buckeye Nation is unhappy that he didn't pile up a million yards and gain the Freddy award for best WR. He certainly had a great chance. But I see him going the rehab route rather than coming back for a couple of games towards the end of the year. An injury at that point would put him out of the combine and pro day at tOSU, and probably gain him nothing.....Go Bucks!

That is certainly possible, but I might guess Bosa-lite in the sense that if we are undefeated heading into The Game/B1G Championship/Playoffs he may come back for the last stretch...would benefit him to go out with a bang against top opponents and also benefit the team in games where we actually may need him. I would personally target the scUM game for a return, I just don't see the benefit eclipsing the reward for JSN or the team by returning before then.

If someone's top speed is 21 mph, and they can get to that top speed in 1 second flat, his 40 time is 4.396 and his 100m time is 11.15
If someone's top speed is 26 mph, and they can get to that top speed in 2.5 seconds, his 40 time is 4.397 and his 100m time is 9.85

This is both an exaggeration and an oversimplification, but it still illustrates the point

Not to mention that Biletnikoff also caught anything he could at least get his fingertips on. Of course, having enough stickum on his hands that was basically the same as having gorilla glue didn't hurt.

Agree he's not at Olave or Wilson's level of top end speed, but he's usually getting "run down" by guys who had the angle and/or already reached their top speed before he did. If he's healthy for the combine, he's probably gonna run around a 4.5

I see draft prediction's of JSN running 4.5(https://www.draftdive.com/jaxson-smith-njigba-scouting-report/).
But he came to OSU running a 4.59(https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio...ing,early and enroll at Ohio State in January.)
And its also been rumored he's running in the mid 4.6s(https://abtc.ng/jaxon-smith-njigba-...-40-time-recruiting-height-brother-draft-age/)

Like @Gunlife said, he's probably closer to Cooper Kupp as far as comparisons go. And as an all time comparison, I'd say he's close to Cris Carter, who also didn't run blazing 40 time, but caught everything near him
