WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

I haven’t seen nearly the explosion he has shown in previous years yet…..he looks like a shell of himself, IMO.

Ryan Day knows a helluva lot more than I do, but my opinion is to just let it rest, and then focus in bowl practice to find that rhythm and hopefully he can showcase his skills prior to leaving for NFL…..I will say, each game he comes back and isn’t himself, I feel like we see his draft stock slip a bit. Almost every mock I’m looking at has taken him out of the first rd with multiple receivers ahead of him.

He's played what equates to about 3 quarters so far. In his first game last year he had 2 catches for 3 yards. He's the kind of receiver that takes some time to get going and that's why it's imperative to start building up his reps instead of just throwing him into a playoff game. I would say trust that the coaches, trainers, doctors and JSN himself that are around him 24/7 and do this for living to know what's best for him.

it took time to adjust when he got taken out of the offense.
it will take time to work him back in now that he's healthier.

i think that all of this attention on JSN is kind of unfair to harrison, given the unbelievable performances he's been turning in week after week. the media sometimes talk as if harrison is an also-ran.
Joel Klatt, who many viewers during the most recent game believed wasn’t positive enough about the Buckeyes, said words like this (paraphrasing) about Marvin Harrison, Jr.:

“In 4 or 5 years, he’s going to be the best receiver in the NFL.” I hope he’s right, and that’s extremely close to the ceiling for anybody’s career.

The funny thing is he'll be competing with Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Can't Guard Mike for that distinction! Ok, maybe Adams and Hopkins will still be going strong but who knows

I think we need to reassess as a fanbase if Klatt is viewed as an enemy. Dude is pretty much always complimentary of OSU. Has had OSU at #1 for the majority of the season, even.

And I’m no expert, but I’ve said a few times on BP that Harrison is the best WR I’ve ever seen at OSU.. and I think he is an example of what a pro bowl NFL WR would look like in college. Dude is amazing. His body control and ability to pluck the ball out of the air are on a different level. Body control is unlike anything I’ve seen.

i think joel klatt has been much more positive overall than most of his peers. he was the one even from the beginning of the season saying that ohio state may be better than alabama and georgia.
i distinctly remember his comment. it was during the penn state game after another one of harrison's crazy catches. i think gus johnson was asking him what makes harrison unique or special, or some such thing.

it was actually this specific statement that made me think that we're spending so much time fussing about when JSN will come back (so our offense can *really* have a full set of weapons) that we're overlooking the record season that harrison is "quietly" putting together - ie while we're crying over jsn and spilled milk, harrison is putting on a clinic for the ages game after game.

I usually like Klatt, but if you listened to Gus and Klatt on Saturday without knowing the score, you'd have thought Iowa was up 26-10 at halftime and Ohio State had 50 yards of offense and 3 turnovers.

I think they were just shocked to see anyone even slow the Offense down. It ended at half time but still, Iowa gets credit holding us to 26 at halftime. Bahahaha

I think they may have been trying to keep folks interested in the game. I think anymore announcers do whatever they can to find things to talk about in a boring game. We watched because we’re Buckeyes just like Hawkeyes watched. Otherwise if you’re an outsider that was mostly a yawn.

This, exactly. They (indirectly) get paid based on viewership. They, in some ways, have to invent some level of controversy — on the fly — to keep people tuned in.

Listen to his YouTube this week… it’s still the same, tOSU is scary good narrative. Could you imagine the reaction in viewership and / or words if they said what they were really thinking in the booth? ‘Come on, those four field goals are probably enough to walk out of the stadium with a win… go fill your beer and see if there’s a better game on because this shit is going to get out of contro… and there’s Eichenberg with a pick-6… this shit’s over…’ We’d lose Klatt and Gus from the booth and have to deal with Beth or worse.

Despite leaving this past weekend’s Iowa game with an apparent limp, Day said Smith-Njigba wanted to return to the game but the staff opted to hold him to his snaps restriction.

“He’s always been trying to get back out there. He’s a competitor and it’s been hard for him to not be out there more,” Day said. “But we wanted to make sure that we kept that number at around about 20 and make sure we didn’t put him out there any more.”

When asked Tuesday if Smith-Njigba underwent medical evaluations for anything beyond his lingering hamstring issue on Saturday, Day said “there was nothing else other than just the normal evaluations.”

I agree that the rhythm will be an issue while integrating him back into the offense, but its worth it to work out the kinks leading up to the end of the season rather than bowl practice.

Assuming he's healthy, of course. Hoping he can play again against PSU because each game back gives him more confidence.
