WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

Day was asked if he’s still in a position to expect JSN at some point this season and Day said in so many words:

he’s hoping, not expecting

I let myself get a little bit optimistic this week about so it’s my fault I’m allowing myself to be so disappointed.

Not great. Until he goes out and plays, you can't expect anything, but without him the WR group is thin and at times has been limited outside of MHJr. They can succeed without him, but not having JSN really hinders the full capablities of the offense.

I’ve alluded to it before but I think the earliest we could expect to see him return is likely Big 10 Championship…..mostly because it’s indoors.

It’s gonna be hard for him to make an impact in Michigan game for multiple reasons, primarily trying to work him back into game plan with uncertain playing conditions. I can’t see OSU taking a large chunk of time to work him back in and the extra practice time to get it dialed in. Plus, it’s just harder to get the body loose in cold, windy conditions. I don’t see the Michigan game as a viable return date…

The Big 10 Championship and going forward makes more sense from being able to practice exclusively indoors and having 100% confidence in the environment.

This means we have to rely on Fleming to actually catch passes.

Honest question here…if he is out the rest of the season does he come back next season? We know his talent but he mostly ran behind Olave and Wilson last year and really shone in the Rose Bowl. But that’s essentially one game on tape for NFL GM’s to look at. Does that push down his draft stock? I think it does. Might serve the kid best to return for another season. NIL has to help make that decision easier than it would have 2 years ago. Regardless it sucks for him and I hope he gets better soon.

I’m prob in minority but I think it’s 50/50.

He has a solid NIL deal….he’d make more as a rookie in NFL but coming back for senior season could solidify him as a top 10 pick.

He’s currently a borderline 1st/2nd rounder at this point based on most mocks (4th or 5th WR taken).

If he comes back next year he can easily elevate himself to 2nd WR off the board (likely behind Marvin Harrison JR.)

He’d get a nice NIL package again so it takes some of that sting away from skipping out on a rookie NFL deal right away.
