WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

Chris Olave ran the same risk after a solid junior year. He bet on himself and CJ Stroud….and it paid off in spades.

I was going to make the same point. I thought there was no way Olave was coming back, especially with Fields leaving.
That said, I think that was a rare instance. Most players in that situation would take the NFL dollars today, rather than what the NFL dollars could be next year.

which is easily covered by insurance

Can't speak for JSN, but I would imagine that a related consideration for some is not just the money that comes from playing in the NFL, or from a Lloyd's of London insurance policy, but the actual experience of having played in the NFL.

There is also the time-value-of-money consideration. Avoiding the "where he'll go in the draft" conversation entirely, because I don't watch the NFL and know nothing about projecting players into the NFL, it would be wise for JSN or anyone to consider whatever coin he'll get in April of 2023 vs the coin he'll get in April of 2024 (minus the insurance premium). For people who don't understand the time value of money, you simply subtract one from the other. For people who do (and I expect that Ohio State teaches their football players this principle) the money in 2023 is worth more than the money in 2024: How much more is a question for financiers and economists.

Will JSN consider that? I have no earthly idea. Just throwing things out there that he might consider.

But since everyone else is hazarding a guess, so will I. I expect he'll go. With tears in his eyes... but he'll go.

I'd be shocked if he came back. With an injury, especially one that lingered, already impacting his playing time, it's hard to chance it another year. Even though he only started one year, he's a legendary player and one of the best WRs OSU's had. Unless he has non-negotiable college career goals or maybe thinks McCord will be a special player next year, it's unfortunately over.

He's not a lock for a top 15 pick, but is still likely to go in the 1st and would be in an even better position career-wise if he goes to a good team that has a good QB. Dallas, Ravens, Bills. Maybe a team like KC would trade up a little bit for him. He could still get a great contract and be in a position for a huge second contract after blowing up with a great QB.

Legendary? One year, no BT title, loss to scUM. Ginn Gonzalez legendary ..

Olave never sat out a season to a “soft” tissue injury.
My guy, this ain't it.

I'm going to say this once, because you disagree with a comparison (one that he wasn't making by the way), ask yourself if the rest of us actually needs to hear about your disagreement.

Because to me, this is a straight bash of an active player. You can PM me if this isn't clear enough.

It’s not a bash if had an acl or Achilles there is a protocol to rehabbing it and he might decide to go pro because the pros understand that just like Jameson with Detroit. With a hamstring it’s trickier that’s all either way JSN is going pro. He might play again for OSU it’s just there is no real fixed timetable for a hamstring. He tried to gut it out once this season..he has nothing to prove regarding toughness.
