WR Jalin Marshall (Edmonton Elks)

Just an observation but a lot of the times (not always) it seems like Jalin is retreating to catch a kick. I know the punter can hit an occasional big one, but it seems to happen to Jalin more than most or maybe Jalin is playing up to much. Like I said just an observation.

I know on the last muffed punt on Saturday was just bad technique, which can easily be corrected.

I can see weather being a factor on his fumble into the end zone, but his punt muff was just bad technique because it hit his breastplate...he just needs to ensure he catches punts with his hands and arms.

i also noticed he dropped his head as if to run before catching it even though he had signaled for a fair catch

Kid's a baller. He'll get better. Not that it's acceptable, but I have to wonder what effect the cold had on the muffed punt. Also, receiving a kick or punt is not an easy thing to do... even when it's not 20 degrees and gunners are running at you. I'm pretty sure that the twitter assclowns couldn't go outside on a perfect spring day and field a punt from a D-1 punter with no opposition.

Jalin has shown he is, IMO, THE most explosive player on this roster. Samuel is up there, but Jalin is one of those rare guys that every time he touches the ball, he's a threat to house it from anywhere on the field. He just seems to glide over the field. He'll get his head straight, then look out. We've heard since Urban arrived about the "Percy Harvin" role...Jalin is the closest thing we've had to it. And I think soon enough he will be regularly having the same impact.

I very much admire this staff's willingness to give kids chances to work though their mistakes. We saw it with Dontre vs. Sparty, and again last week when Jalin stayed on the field after his gaffes. They recognize how important these kids are to make this offense go, and that many times throwing them right back into the fray is way more beneficial than sitting them down to dwell on their mistakes. Kudos to them for that, and I think they'll be rewarded handsomely.

Agreed 100%, I said that sometime last week and still believe it...the strength, versatility, and elusiveness in space is special, plus he has great top end speed. Total pacakage. As pissed as I was with the two fumbles, the biggest was the one on the goalline...that directly gave up a sure score at a critical time. The punt was upsetting but catching a punt was honestly the hardest thing I have ever done in football...everyone is closing in on you and you have to keep an eye on them, make sure your blockers stay away from the ball, and also track the ball in air and catch it. Even on fair catches, it is no small task. Now that is absolutely no excuse for all his drops back there because if he wants to be back there, he HAS to cut it out. I hope he does because he is our best man back there.

And I definitely agree they are letting him stay in and redeem himself. We knew how young this team was and even with the amazing talents they have, you also have to be ready to deal with some freshman/sophomore mistakes. Jalin is the present and future (same with Dontre), so we need to keep them in, let them learn from mistakes, and inspire confidence in them.
