WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

From ESPN

Ohio State freshman wide receiver Duron Carter will not participate in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi, the team announced Thursday.

No official reason was given for Carter's absence, but a source close to the program told ESPN.com that Carter had been ruled academically ineligible. Multiple media outlets in Ohio reported that the freshman was awaiting a final decision on his academic status.

This has already been somewhat refuted:

WBNS is reporting he won't play, but the official reason has not been reported by the university as of now.

Confirmed earlier today, no specific reason was given.

And this thread is not a place for speculation or judgments.

Duron's got so many connections, I don't see how he can go wrong. I have a feeling this is a little bump on his road, and he's gonna come back next year focused and ready to break out. If TP is going to emerge as a passer, a third thread with Dane and DV is essential, and Duron can provide that.

I think the biggest story here is, who is going to step up? Duron really hasn't done anything this year. He has shown flashes here and there but by no means has he made any substantial impact. Watching the spring game, Taurian Washington looked like an impact player. Ray Small looked like an impact player. I know that there has been talk about both Ray and Taurian's lack of work ethic in practice, and whether or not Taurian is even still there. If Duron dropped the ball academically, I just hope that one of those guys emerges and makes something from this mess during these bowl practices.
We need to get better passing the ball, and most of the time we focus on what Terrelle does or doesn't do. The only receiver I feel 100 percent confident in is Dane. Even Posey isn't there yet. These guys need to step there game up. Was hoping Duron could be that guy but this is a huge blow to him IMHO.

Ease up on the kid, he's only an 18yo true frosh! WR is a very difficult position to come in year one and produce star numbers. We should feel confident in Posey, Dane and Small, after that there's a pretty big drop-off if Duron isn't playing. Taurian doesn't seem to be able to reach his potential, but let's hope this gives Flash an opportunity to ball out. But I disagree that Duron hasn't done anything, when he's a true frosh and is 3rd in pretty much every WR category on our team. When was the last time we've had a freshman do that for us?

Scout.com: Duron Carter Speaks From The Heart

Very encouraging article from Bill Greene. Sounds like Duron is owning up to his mistakes and has been "scared straight". Should ease a lot of concerns going into the spring...

Greene: In closing, is there anything you want to say to Ohio State fans, or your teammates and coaches?

Carter: "I just want to say how sorry I am that I let everyone down, and I promise it will NEVER happen again. I'm back."

Did you actually watch Duron play? If you did, you'd retract your comments as Duron was clearly a player out there and has incredible hands. Yeah, he screwed up in the classroom and has to get that act together, but if you weren't impressed with what he did on the football field, then you don't watch much football.
