No official reason was given for Carter's absence, but a source close to the program told ESPN.com that Carter had been ruled academically ineligible. Multiple media outlets in Ohio reported that the freshman was awaiting a final decision on his academic status.

He has shown flashes here and there but by no means has he made any substantial impact. Watching the spring game, Taurian Washington looked like an impact player. Ray Small looked like an impact player. I know that there has been talk about both Ray and Taurian's lack of work ethic in practice, and whether or not Taurian is even still there. If Duron dropped the ball academically, I just hope that one of those guys emerges and makes something from this mess during these bowl practices.
We need to get better passing the ball, and most of the time we focus on what Terrelle does or doesn't do. The only receiver I feel 100 percent confident in is Dane. Even Posey isn't there yet. These guys need to step there game up. Was hoping Duron could be that guy but this is a huge blow to him IMHO.
Greene: In closing, is there anything you want to say to Ohio State fans, or your teammates and coaches?
Carter: "I just want to say how sorry I am that I let everyone down, and I promise it will NEVER happen again. I'm back."
