Sanzenbacher gets best of Koger

COLUMBUS - They don the same colors as they did the last time they met on a football field, but this time the venue was just a bit larger for Ohio State sophomore wideout Dane Sanzenbacher and Michigan freshman tight end Kevin Koger.

Sanzenbacher was wearing the scarlet and gray for Central Catholic back on Oct. 20, 2006, when his then top-ranked Irish met Koger's maize and blue Whitmer Panthers for a key City League battle played at Waite's Mollenkopf Stadium.

The result yesterday in front of 105,564 at Ohio Stadium, and from two years ago with about 100,000 fewer in attendance, was about the same.

Ohio State throttled the arch-rival Wolverines 42-7 yesterday, and Central topped Whitmer 28-7 back in 2006.

"It's another whole level," Sanzenbacher said of the bigger stage, "but football's football, and you're going at it."

Dane is quite simply my favorite player on this team now. He lays his body out to dry for the good of the team and quite frankly I don't think there is a pass he couldn't catch.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dane with an increased role next year.

That play, and Dan Herron's subsequent 19-yard run, set up Ohio State's fifth touchdown of the game.

That catch and the first reception highlights Dane's role on this team as a possession receiver. Pryor seems to be developing a connection with Dane. A trend that will only get better as both improve their skills.

Here's another shot that shows another aspect of Dane - the followup on other plays, downfield blocking and the extra effort that often goes un-noticed.

I am impressed with Dane Sanzenbacher and God only knows how he is hanging onto the ball. Lately he is really taking some shots. I was remembering an Alum by the name of "Mike Lanese and how he played. He had a great pair of hands in his day. Carter was another one who was great for the Buckeyes. And of course "Gonzo" and all the great catches he came up with - especially the Scum game ending catching in 2005. Wow........ and now we have another one coming up in Sanzenbacher. I hope and pray tht he can stay healthy for the rest of his playing time with the Buckeyes. Good Luck to you Dane.

I think he has "Gonzo's" moves and can only get better

Anyone else see Dane developing into a Anthony Gonzalez type receiver next year?
Yeah, I thought the same thing after Dane got rocked in Wisconsin. You see the resemblance when he takes a quick slant from the slot for a first down or a TD, then promptly gets knocked into Tuesday on the next one.

How many concussions had Gonzalez suffered when he left? Was it three or four? :tongue2:

The end of the "border battle" rivalry?

Of course, anytime OSU can beat ?that team up north? and by a significant margin, it is a great day for Bucks fans. Looking deeper, there were some memorable moving positives. For example when senior quarterback and last year?s star Todd Beockman threw an 18-yard TD pass to Brian Hartline. Another was the play of Toledo?s own Dane Sanzenbacher. Dane got considerable playing time, especially when you consider his size. Most of the players have 50 to 100 pounds and four to six inches on him. What he lacks in size, he has in heart. He is the go-to man if Robiskie or Hartline are covered. He has tremendous hands, despite being banged around by these giants. This was evidenced by one play in particular when he went up with two big Michigan defenders and came down with the ball.

Dane is getting noticed for his hands, head and heart despite his height. He's a baller.
