WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

Illinois manned Vontae Davis up on Sanzenbacher in the slot a few times today while leaving Hartline and Robiskie to be doubled by the outside corners and safeties. Shows the respect he is getting from opposing coaching staffs, although it could also be a product of the perception of Pryor's throwing ability.

I picked up on that as well. That's quite a nod to Dane.

If he keeps getting hit in the head, we may have to chip in and get him one of these: Sports helmet - Patent 5713082

Nice game today for the young man.

Poor kid constantly gets knocked around every game. Man, he has some heart and a great pair of hands. It was nice to see him get in the endzone, you'd think that he's get there more since he gets hit so damn often!

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. ? Dane Sanzenbacher scored a touchdown on the first pass reception of his college career at Ohio State. Yesterday, 22 games later, the former Central Catholic standout found the end zone again, taking in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Buckeyes quarterback Terrelle Pryor in the second quarter of Ohio State's 30-20 win over Illinois.

"I guess it's about time , that was a long wait," Sanzenbacher said about the nearly 1,500 offensive plays the Buckeyes have run since he caught a three-yard scoring pass from Todd Boeckman in the 2007 season-opener against Youngstown State.

Dane talks about one of the hits and his impression of Terrelle.

"I think that's why they flagged it [helmet-to-helmet]," Sanzenbacher said.

"I didn?t really see him coming, but that happens in football. It didn't feel great, but it kept the drive alive. We were made aware before the season started that there would be an emphasis on those kinds of hits, so I'm not really surprised by the flag."

"I'm not the first read on that, but I just slid behind the defender and found some space," he said.

"That's a credit to Terrelle and how he's grown as a quarterback. Earlier in the season, I think he would have tucked it in and ran."

BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : This time, call goes Sanzenbacher's way

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- One second Dane Sanzenbacher was going after a tipped pass off the hands of Ohio State teammate Daniel Herron. The next second he was laid out by the helmet-first hit of Illinois' Donsay Hardeman.

"I didn't really see him coming, to be honest," Sanzenbacher said. "But the official threw the flag on it, which works for me."
The official ruled unnecessary roughness on the part of Hardeman, giving Ohio State a first down at the Illinois 34 and new life on the way to its final touchdown early in the fourth quarter of the Buckeyes' 30-20 win.
Sanzenbacher wasn't surprised by the flag, either. He'd been knocked out of the Wisconsin game because of a concussion, as was Herron, on plays when no flags were thrown. So he knew it was a matter of time before the balance swung.

Dane getting popped on his first reception. He hung onto it despite the hit.

Dane made a good play on the onside kick attempt at the end of the game. He blocked a guy coming toward the ball in order to give his teammate a clear opening to catch the ball.

He has good awareness and football sense on the field.
