WR Brian Robiskie (Official Thread)

P.S. not a bad return considering the talent that's returning for next year.

Exactly. I'd like to see everyone stay, whether we win the NC Game or not....but I doubt it will happen.

I want Robiskie to come back next year but in the event that he doesn't:
Brian Hartline, Ray Small, Dane Sanzenbacher, Devon Torrence, Taurian Washington, Jake Stoneburner, DeVier Posey, Lamar Thomas, and whoever else could jump on board. Also Rory Nicol and Jake Ballard at TE...I think someone will be likely to emerge from that group should Robo go pro

Off the top of my head a few things to consider

1) They don't really need the money with his dad's NFL coaching
2) This is a weak draft class so he is likely to go pretty high if he declares
3) This has been his breakout season that we have been expecting him to have

I keep seeing/hearing people bring up this point. How much does an NFL assistant actually make? I'm sure the money is good and all, but its not like the millions he'll be making in the NFL. Obviously he's not broke or anything now, but I don't know if the money his dad makes will be a big factor.

If Brian were to get 1st round money - preferably next year - then that haul would likely dwarf his father's single season salary. In 2005, the average assistant coaches salary was over a quarter million dollars. O-coordinators earned twice that moolah, D-coordinators three times an assistant's haul.

Thing is though, his dad will be able to make that coin for many years at one location or another. A player's turn in the spotlight of the NFL can be very brief.

And I think that's why it's very important for these players to cash in on their initial contract/ signing bonus as much as possible. Sure if you are good for three or four years, you might get a much better contract. But not everyone's name is Joey Galloway. If by staying one more year on a great team, Robiskie can make a couple more mil on the signing bonus and possibly another mil a year on the contract, by all means that is the smarter investment.

IMO if Robo stays it will be because his father has advised him too. His dad knows where brian needs to be better than anyone. If Brian goes it will be a very well thought out process with excellent mentoring.

I was talking to someone last night who claims he heard Robo's dad is trying to make him stay for four years, and that they have enough money so it wouldn't be an issue. I didn't really buy it (when it comes down to playing a sport for a living, or going to class most kids pick playing a sport) but has anyone else heard this?

Robiskie starts, stops the show

- In college foot ball, the only sport in which the regular season is critical, teams get no do-overs in pursuit of the big prize. A single loss at this stage and the national cham pionship would have been gone that Ohio State has pursued so doggedly after last season ended in defeat and humilia tion in Ari zona.
You would want no one other than Brian Robiskie, the most polished Ohio State receiver since Cris Carter a generation ago, to try to catch the dream.

I would think another year would benefit by proving he is not just a one year wonder. (We know he's not, but outsiders may not be convinced.) For as great as he and Boeckman have gelled this year, they could be even better next year.

Thats a pretty bold statement saying Robiskie is the most polished receiver since Carter. Terry Glenn and Santonio Holmes were about as polished as they could possibly be on the college level...

Meh, Glenn maybe, but Robiskie is definitely more polished than Holmes. Holmes was not as "polished as could possibly be". Great wheels though.

Haha yeah right, dude.

Holmes had all aspects of the game down.

Adjustments in the air, crisp routes, downfield blocking, amazing hands.

What more is there?

He is now flourishing in the NFL in his second year due to that polish.
