Gumby's on campus during the 90s was awful...

We'll just have to agree to disagree...I love it and order extra unmelted on the side.

I know it's a bit further up the river than you, but have you ever had Giannamore's in Steubenville?

If I have my stories straight, which I probably don't, he was at DiCarlos forever before bailing and starting his own place.

Completely off topic (what else is new):
The Giant Eagle in Boardman (I'm sure every Giant Eagle in the NE Ohio region has it) has this spicy cappicola deli meat. May be the greatest deli meat I've ever had, EVER. My dad went up for a family funeral recently and brought back 2 pounds... Couldn't have lasted more than a week and a half.

I live about 20 minutes from that Giant Eagle and this is the first I've heard of this magic deli meat. I guess I'll have to try it.

And since someone asked about Y-town Pizza, I have to go with Wedgewood, Belleria has some pretty good pizza, or at least the one in Hubbard does, their food varies wildly from location to location. You can't go wrong with Inner Circle Pizza, Francesco's in Hubbard is also really good...I can go on and on...

I didn't grow up in Youngstown but I've lived in the area for about a decade and I'm not overly impressed with Inner Circle. I drive past a Bellaria to/from work every day but I've never tried it.

I grew up buying pizza by the slice (squares) made fresh right in front of you in a tiny shop with no air conditioning - we had 3 places like that in EL then (only 1 now). I still like it (Bruno's) better than anything else in Ohio.

I can't believe there aren't more votes for Marco's. I lived in Toledo for a while (world HQ for Marco's), and their pizza is consistently the worst I've ever had. The crust is as dry as a bone and sucks all of the water out of your mouth, then the grease overpowers the center of the pizza. It's mind over matter to get through a slice.

Cici's is probably next in my mind. Why anyone would order that pizza outside of their buffet is beyond me. That said, they might have one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had.

Sbarro I didn't even realize was a pizza chain. I thought they made cardboard boxes.

Now if we're talking best pizza... Donatos, Tommy's (Columbus), Goodfellas (Athens), Hound Dogs (Columbus), and Flying Pizza (Columbus) make some great pie. Worked for Donatos back in HS. Still addicted to it.

In reality, anything not made in the NYC metro area.

New York style pizza sucks ass unless you like to eat grease....When I lived in NC that is all they had and all you had to do was hold a slice up and the grease would drip off it for days.....Chicago style pizza is the bomb...

That being said in a David Letterman like countdown:

5. Pizza Hut
4. Papa Johns
3. Dominoes
2. CiCis

And the No. 1 suckiest pizza is.....

Little Ceasers.....

Good call. Gumby's was all crust, and even at that, half the crust was air bubbles. Little Caesar's is garbage as well.

I would gladly murder anyone that said Donato's is the worst pizza, in exchange for a Donato's store in Houston.

Papa Johns is fucking nasty. I would gladly order Domino's before Papa Johns or Pizza Hut.

Being in Chicago, we are definitely not short on pizza places. I notice some are mentioning Giordano's, I am not a fan of that place at all. There are 3 places in Chicago I would consider the best; Lou Malnati's, Pequods and D'Agostinos.

This... I'll take Lou's over Gio's any day. Frankly, I'll take any NY style pizza over any Chicago pizza any day too.

Edit/Add: Gumby's was really bad, but it was inexpensive and they had the 'save 10 coupons and get a free' thing going back then too. I saw a lot of the Gumby fly through the towers when I lived there.

The Boar's Head Cappicola sold at most Kroger marketplaces is pretty good too. I haven't had it on Pizza, but throw it between two slices of sourdough and add some smoked mozzarella, genoa salami, hot pepper relish and basil pesto and then put it in a panini press.....amazing!

There used to be this place called Ralph's Hacienda near my home. There was never anyone there. One day my wife and I went in just for kicks. There was one group sitting in the corner, one employee as far and I could tell. He took out order and then he went over and sat down at the table in the far corner for about 20 minutes and shot the shit. he finally walks past us and we're looking at him, he says "oh, you wanted pizza, right?" and ten minutes later brought out this horrible abomination of a pizza. The whole experience was worth a laugh.

If you like Italian style cuts, you won't be disappointed.

There's a little Italian deli in the Boardman Plaza called Anzavino's that my grandpa used to make the 40 mile trip (each way) just to get prosciutto and cappicola back in the 80s. Now that I live in the area that's where I get it.

Giant Eagle will have to be really good to beat it.
