I think Dantonio has found a home in East Lansing. I think if Ohio State came calling he'd decline. I know some people will take exception to the very idea that somebody might value another Big Ten job over Ohio State, but he can win games and the occasional title there and only face a fraction of the scrutiny and pressure that he'd face in Columbus. Sure, he has Ohio State ties - his ties to MSU are stronger though. He has a good gig, why ruin it?

Plus there's there's that thing with his ticker. If people think Urban Meyer is a risk, what should we think about Dantonio?

great point as I didnt factor that in. What are your thoughts on Beckman?

I didn't see the Nebraska game. After Miller got hurt, what was Fickell's best option. What could Fickell have done differently with Bauserman as the QB that could have won that game? Besides putting Guiton as the #2 after the Miami game.

someone else has probably responded, but what Nebraska wanted us to do was to put in a really bad QB and then have him throw incomplete passes and stop the clock ten times!!! and turn it over. Tressell must have bitten right through his lips watching that game. RUN. THE. BALL. Eat up clock.

sheesh!

I was quite vocal about being unimpressed with Toledo, both before and after OSU faced them this year.

Here are some key points on Beckman's resume, and how it compares to the incumbent Luke Fickell:

Head coaching experience:
Beckman: 2.5 seasons
Fickell: 0.5 seasons
Win percentage:
Beckman: .545
Fickell: .571
Seasons in residence as a BCS-level assisstant:
Beckman: 6 (two of those seasons were as a grad assistant at Auburn)
Fickell: 9

One name I haven't heard come up in conversation much is Gary Pinkel. An Ohio born and bread coach, with good HC experience at Toledo and now Mizzou. He is a former OC and WR coach.

He has had a pretty solid career with over 150 wins a MAC championship and 3 Big 12 Division Championships. He is a little older at 58 years old, but could be a good coach to steady the program for some time.

He had a good win today against Texas A&M.

One down.

If Wisconsin lets a receiver get behind them in the end zone Fickell is a more viable candidate. If they don't he is not?

What I saw last night was the second game in three weeks where the Defensive side of the ball (not Bollman) failed to hold a solid lead in the fourth quarter.

There is nothing Fickell can do this season that can prove his ability to manage a program over time. That is not his fault, but he is to some extent a pig in a poke.

One thing I saw last night is that this is a team that is not devoid of talent on both sides of the ball. Some of that talent is very young and raw, but the talent is there.

Whoever the coach is next year is definitely going to have the players to work with and has a great chance to be successful right out of the gate.

Does Northern Ilinois' 63-60 win over Toledo hurt Beckman's chances of landing the Ohio State job? Does it help since they did put up 60 points.

Or does it hurt that he didn't use any of his timeouts at the end of the game to save time to try to win it?

I didn't see the game, but that is interesting. A coach misusing timeouts? How long has he been a head coach and he can't manage his timeouts better than that. Interesting indeed.

Although I have no idea what I'm talking about, I've given some thought to these very matters. In addition to the suspensions, we lost Pryor, and as a result we're not keeping the defense off the field. We also are not winning the field position battle as we used to.

If the above wasn't enough, I believe we replaced 7 starters on defense this year. I think that really showed in the Miami game, the defense was very average. I'm talking about poor tackling angles, missed tackles, not seemly playing together, confusion on assignments, new player rotations and so on.

To the coaching staff's credit, I think the defense has made major overall improvements since then. When the defense seems to have trouble, is when the other team goes into a desperation mode, and opens things up. I'm just wondering if we don't practice enough against that?

When JT was going through some major changes back in 2004, the team went 8-4. Much like this year's game with Toledo, included was a 3 point win over Marshall. I know the mood on the board would be different if we had lost to Wisconsin. I also think the mood may have been different if Boom had played against Nebraska and the play calling was a little different.

No disrespect to our Nebraska fans.
