Who will be tOSU's head coach on July 1, 2012? (betting closed)

Well, Bo Pelini was high on my list until last night. Losing 48-17 to Wisconsin does not sit well with me at all!!!

Here is my updated list of who I want as our HC:

1. Urban Meyer
1a. Jon Gruden
2. Kyle Whittingham (6-1 in bowls including a beatdown of Bama)
3. Rob Ryan (Great defensive mind, Ohio State LB coach in 1988)
4. Josh MaDaniels (Great offensive mind, Ohio ties, Belichick deciple, nuff said)
5. Tim Beckman (Good coach, Ohio ties)

Of your list, I only take issue with McDaniels. The last thing I want in Columbus is a wunderkind type X's and O's "genius." My fear is that he'd be Charlie Weis without the gut.

Well, I added him because of his Ohio ties and the way he showed some balls by not putting up with Brandon Marshall's shit... I think he would be a good one but I think he is looking to be an NFL HC.

UM seems to be the one to get the most consideration, but I'm thinking more and more about Beckman. If Toledo is successful this season, I could really see tOSU giving him a strong look. Could be a really good fit too.

I know ver' little about your Americain futbol. But even I can see McDaniel is not 'alf the man Monsieur Charles Weis is.

Besides Urban I can't think of many maybe Gary Patterson, maybe Skip Holtz but not to sure about him right now

(I've read a couple of his books and) I honestly believe that Lou was a very good football coach and (deep down) likes Ohio State. However, after seeing all the negative ranting and raving by Lou (and others) on ESPN about The Ohio State University I really don't want any head coach named Holtz.

I will add to that notion that I am not sure that a Holtz will bring a program that doesn't have potential violations associated with it down the road, which is the last thing we need. Lou never coached anywhere that issues didn't arise at some point in time.

In his book...

...he (briefly) addresses that. He claims that all the NCAA violations were either done not knowing that it was an actual violation and/or done by assistants without his knowledge or consent.

In hindsight I wish that GS asked Jim Heacock to be the interim HC this year and then hire Jt's replacement after this year..Heacock has head coaching experience..I think most of us were hoping that the young LF would catch lightning in a bottle but obviously do to all the issues this team has had his chance of success is all but gone..

Fick will not be fired at the end of the season. He just wont be extended.

I am a Beckman fan as well.

I don't understand the interest in guys who have done well in the NFL. I want someone who has a proven record of managing a college level program.

I am with you regarding NFL guys. I'll stick with guys which I think are realistic. My top two are:

1. Meyer
2. Beckman

Perhaps I am unaware some viable candidates but I don't consider Chris Peterson and some others like him as realistic.

I'd like to see Mike Leach. Brilliant offensive mind, has had success at the college level and has connections to Texas recruiting. My only complaint with his coaching philosophy was that he seemed to ignore the defensive side, but in his book he admitted that the time off from coaching and visiting other programs has made him realize that. A Leach ran offense and a steady defense could be real fun to watch. Plus he has a hatred for ESPN...

What do you guys think of Kyle Whittingham? I think he is a great coach! Not sure how his style would do in the Big Ten but he is a defensive guy. He would open up recruiting ties with Samoans, which I think would be pretty cool. Plus his bowl record speaks for itself! His win over Bama was impressive and he is 1-0 against scUM!!! If it's not Meyer of Gruden, I would want Whittingham!

I do like Beckman, but I would like to see how his team finishes the year. He had them prepared against us and they had the game against Syracuse.
