Who will be tOSU's head coach on July 1, 2012? (betting closed)

I'm really intrigued by Chris Peterson. With a 63-5 record, and somehow always putting his team in a position to win against higher quality opponents. Who wouldn't want this guy. Although, I have a feeling it will be hard to pull him away from Boise.

Could be due to the fact that he just signed a 7 year extension with OU. Don't quote me, though.

Carroll and Saban have big contracts, also. And I quoted you. :wink2:

Edit - It's the buyout amount that matters. Petrino's is around $18 million for 2012, he's among the least likely guys on the list because of that.

The only coach on the list who is both "Tressel-like" and a lead pipe lock for success is a 999-1 long shot on the v-bet.
This fan would love to see a one year show cause from the NCAA COI with a rehire date of Sept 1, 2012.

Who ever the coach is the Administration needs to commit to them with money not only for them but for good assistants....then monitor the shyt out of the program so as to protect the schools 100 million dollar a year cash cow....you do that with a multi year to tell kids this is our guy Ohio State will be in good shape because its Ohio State

Now that we're right in the middle of it and asking some tough questions after a tough loss, I can't help wonder if Jim Heacock would have made more sense as an interim coach this season? Heacock has been the primary (not co-) D coordinator for 6 years and has 8 previous years of head coaching experience, and he's old enough to not be set back professionally if this season turns out badly. I mean, I had hoped Fickell would become Tressel's successor at OSU--but 5 years from now. I don't know, it's just interesting that we went with a position coach (and co-coordinator) rather than just bumping both Fickell and Heacock up a single level... I wonder if Heacock was possibly approached by Smith about the job and actually suggested Fickell get it instead? Just spit-ballin...

He should be allowed to a least play one game with his full squad before any decision is made, don't you think?

I would normally agree with this, but in this case, we are not getting back any play makers (i.e. QUARTERBACK) just primarily ball handlers. Even after we get the players back from suspension, it is still akin to driving a car WITH NO STEERING WHEEL!.. a VERY DANGEROUS proposition with no winners.

No. Not like he's going to get fired either or that anyone has said that.

Its not necessarily about the wins vs the losses. Its how the guys look as a team. If we are losing games because we're young and just get beat you can live with that. Losing games in a manner that Ohio State teams don't lose games is bad. Guys come here to play in big games and they play hard nosed great fundamental football. There are some guys out there really busting their butts but there are some who don't resemble the same thing. Looking lost and not knowing your assignments, thats not what we're used to seeing from OSU football. Some games you line up and the guy in front of you is just better. You lose. You can live with that. When you appear unprepared and not sure what to do, that reflects leadership. If Fick coached like he played this team would look a lot different. It doesnt look that way at the moment and thats unfortunate.

I'm not sure how he could keep his job if this season continues in this manner. The replacement HC can't keep him on because it would send the wrong message. I think, unfortunately, Lu Fickell is cutting his teeth on a team that is use to getting top shelf coaches. If he's out, it will be 100% and he will have to go with Plan B (he DOES have a Plan B, right?!).

I do agree, the team that played today looked very confused and disoriented, and needs to do something VERY dramatic to change. There does not appear to be any leadership coming from the QB and the OL is showing that.

I think Fickell was incorrect saying that the whole program needs to be evaluated because the defensive line seemed to be doing a good job holding Michigan State's offense to just 10 points. I think what DOES need to be evaluated is the offense and the coaching staff.

This is a painful season and it is leading to a painful next season. Hopefully something can be salvaged from what is turning out to be a very horrible train wreck!!

Just my $0.02.

I find it funny it seems a lot of people are automatically assuming Urban is coming here

Yeah I don't get it.

Meyer quit at Florida due to health concerns. With all due respect to Gainesville, Columbus is a larger pressure cooker. By far. Especially with what has transpired in the past 7-10 months.

Will he be a candidate? Probably.

Is he THE candidate? I doubt it. There will be quite a few other coaches with talent looking at this position long and hard.
